Dick was a fine man and a good friend and mentor to me when I first came to the Virginian-Pilot. I used to enjoy running into him at Ocean View golf course from time to time, and I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family. I am sorry to be so late with this, but people at the Pilot are just now getting the word.

Mrs. Welsh,

When I was a kid in Hampton, Dick was always one of the favorite adults I enjoyed being around. I certainly wish we could have seen him more often, but we're stuck up here in the frozen tundra of Upstate, NY.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Liz, Cathy, Rick and Beth:
My deepest condolences on your loss.
I know it's been many years since we've been in touch but I will always remember Dick's presence in our neighborhood growing up. Such a positive, encouraging and kind man to all of the kids who were running around in those days.
I have many great memories. I'm glad I grew up next door to him.

May God bless you.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

I will certainly miss seeing Mr. W's smiling face across the street when I visit my parents.

He will be missed dearly.

So sorry to hear about Beth's father. I remember seeing him and his infectious smile often, including once when the 'gang' was hosted at your home after KHS graduation in '81. Pretty sure the parents were having as much fun as we were. A great loss to all.
