As I am now 75, on occasion I check on people from my past to see if they are still around. Well, Richard popped into my mind this morning and I googled his obituary. It saddens me that he is now gone and that I failed to reconnect before now. My condolences to his families. So I write this memory to keep history informed.

I knew Richard in the 1979-1982 time period. We met as participants in the creation of the Citizens Party in Michigan. The party platform back then reads very similar to Kamala Harris“s campaign regarding energy, the environment, and social justice. In 1980 was the 4 way presidential race of Barry Commoner (Citizens Party), Jimmy Carter (Democratic Party), John Anderson (Independent) and Ronald Regan (Republican Party). If only Americans could have seen the progressive promise, we would not be where we are now.

Besides politics, Richard and I were involved with the local food coop scene, a foundation reconstruction project, and a booklet promoting earth sheltered homes. Richard had a generous nature and was a caring friend. I miss him.
