GEORGETOWN - Mr. Richard Wysopal, 79, beloved husband of Mrs. Carol Ann Wysopal died Monday, July 17, 2017 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts. Born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Carl Wysopal and Tessie (Postus) Wysopal. He graduated from Boardman Trade School with a specialty in carpentry, class of 1956. He continued his education earning an Associate's Degree from the University of New Haven and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Northeastern University. He served honorably in the Army National Guard as a Staff Sargent. Mr. Wysopal was an engineer specializing in metallurgy, who worked for 30 years at General Electric Aircraft Engines in Lynn, Massachusetts. For many years he managed the non-destructive testing lab providing the extreme quality control required for jet engines. After retiring from General Electric he worked for the Essex County Sheriff's Department helping inmates get access to reading materials and acting as a liaison to educational and work programs. He served on the board of directors for Irenicon, a community of intellectually disabled adults. As a young man Richard built hot rods to race and was a member of the National Hot Rod Association. This fact confounded his grandchildren when they learned of it as he always drove at or below the speed limit. He was a green thumb and derived much pleasure from tending to his indoor and outdoor plants. Richard was an active member of the Roman Catholic La Salette Community from its beginnings in the 1970's at the former National Shrine of Our Lady La Salette in Ipswich to its present day worship in Topsfield. Surviving him are his wife of nearly 54 years, Carol Wysopal, of Georgetown, his son Christopher Wysopal and his wife Debra Wysopal, of Concord, his son Douglas Wysopal of North Andover, 3 grandchildren, Renee Wysopal of Brookline, Preston Wysopal of Corvallis, Oregon, and Cole Wysopal of Concord, his brother James Wysopal and his wife Maureen Wysopal of Romney, West Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews. ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park St., Topsfield on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers on Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Richard's memory to Massachusetts General Hospital, Lunder 9 Unit Fund c/o Barbara Cashavelly or to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St, Danvers, Massachusetts. Wysopal family, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I didn't know Richard well, my parents always had wonderful things to say about Richard and told us how lucky they were to have such wonderful friends and neighbors like Richard (and Carol!) in their lives. He will be greatly missed I am sure. Thoughts and prayers to you all at this time.

Dear Carol, As you know, I only met and interacted with Richard a number of times through LaSalette and a couple of New Year's Eve parties. He was a caring and witty man with high principles, and was someone to seek out and greet, especially during "God be with you" interludes on during mass. He will be sorely missed by all, I'm sure. Endeavor to keep your faith while remembering Richard for many years to come.
