Ricky was my little buddy from elementary school at Estey - I helped teach him to overcome his fears of the swimming pool. Ricky has a heart of gold, a mischievous spirit, and a memory for songs. So sorry to hear about his passing Dan and Bonnie - he was a positive contribution to my life.

To all of Rick's family, I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. I not only had the privilege of going to high school with Rick at Bedford I also had the opportunity to work with him many years at Cosmo! We looked at old yearbooks together many times and talked lots about our families. His family was very dear to him. I will treasure the pics I have with him and the ones where he is holding my kids when they were babies! He brought so much vim and vigor to one's day - what a great guy! My deepest sympathy.

I had the opportunity to be Ricky's teacher when he attended Walter Murray Collegiate. With Ricky in the classroom there was never a dull moment. He was a very engaging, enthusiastic and somewhat mischievios student, which made him one of my all-time favourites.
Ricky loved to talk about his sports that he followed closely, and his family that he loved very much. Ricky was a great kid, someone you couldn't help but love, and I feel very privileged that I got to be a part of his life. There will only ever be one 'Ricky McMurtry', he definitely was an original.
Condolences to his family and all who knew him, he will be greatly missed.

I remember my cousin Rick as affectionate and enthusiastic. As a very small boy he and his family visited us in Medicine Hat and Rick decided to do a "runner". He gave us a merry chase, head down, feet pumping and little arms churning. We did catch him of course and no harm was done, although we were pretty winded, and I think he managed to elude us for a good block length or more! My father was prone to telling very corny jokes which Rick thoroughly enjoyed. After dad told the punch line Rick would laugh, slap his knee and say "Uncle Tommie's a funny guy. He had a phenomenal memory for statistics and names. We would be astounded by how much he knew about his favourite sports teams. When we would come to Saskatoon he always remembered us and our children and would ask about every one. Rest in peace Rick. Sincere sympathies to Aunt Edith, Ray, Brenda, Danny and families.
