Rick Sawyer

Ralph Richard "Rick" Sawyer, 64, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Monday, September 15, 2014, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born August 27, 1950, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Ralph and Doris Evelyn Smith Sawyer. Rick loved his Lord, his family, his church, his cars, and his friends. A 1968 graduate of Spartanburg High School, Rick was employed with Duke Energy for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg, the WWJD Bible Fellowship, and also served as a greeter. He was a longtime member of Confederate Classics Car Club. Surviving is his beloved wife of 42 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Reid Sawyer; his precious only daughter, Rikki Elizabeth Sawyer; sisters, Vickie S. Seay and Lynn S. Gosnell, both of Boiling Springs, SC; five very special nephews, Chris Mayse, Kevin Seay, Jason Gosnell, Patrick Gosnell, and Marc Davis; mother-in-law, Emily Reid of Spartanburg; father-in-law, Henry and Nan Reid of Palm Coast, FL; and sister-in-law, Marianna Davis of Spartanburg. Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 PM Thursday, September 18, 2014, at First Baptist North Spartanburg, 8740 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29316. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, September 19, 2014, at First Baptist North Spartanburg, by the Rev. Dr. Michael S. Hamlet and the Rev. Mike Cooke. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Pallbearers are Ronnie Putnam, Donnie Putnam, Tommy Simpson, Leroy Maybry, Roger Smith, and Wayne Morris. Fellow car enthusiasts are asked to drive their "old cars" in honor of Rick.
