Rickey Dyson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 9 to Sep. 10, 2021.
Rickey Giovanni Dyson, Sr. was born to the union of the late Carolyn M. Curtis and Francis W. Dyson on February 10, 1961, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life suddenly on September 5, 2021, in Mechanicsville, Maryland.

Rickey was educated in the St. Mary’s County School System earning his diploma from Chopticon High School in 1979.

He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1979 and was honorably discharged in 1985. Rickey traveled many places while in the military, however, he left his heart in Hawaii. He fondly recalled memories from his time in Hawaii where his son still resides.

Rickey was a lifelong mechanic; he learned this trade from his stepfather Paul who raised him. Rickey was employed at Coby’s Auto Repair & Detail at the time of his passing. When not under the hood of a car, most often at Claude’s, Rickey could be found playing cards or chess and watching cartoons, his favorite being the Flintstones.

Rickey will fondly be remembered for his love of sweets, there was not a piece of candy, cookie, or cake that he did not like. He will also be remembered for his catchphrase “I’m a Marine” which was a frequent response when asked if he was okay or if conditions were acceptable. According to Rickey, Marines were tougher and stronger than anyone else and could withstand anything. Rickey was a Dallas Cowboy fan and enjoyed trash talking his siblings, nieces, and nephews during football season. Our father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and mechanic will be missed.

In addition to his son Rickey Dyson, Jr., and his father Paul Chase, Rickey is survived by his sisters; Terry and Cassandra Cutchember, brothers; Francis (Mary) Dyson, Timothy (Marcia) Chase, Frankie (Crystal) Herbert and Cleaver (Michelle) Mason, sister-in-law; Patricia Chase, uncles; Melvin (Mary Lou) Cutchember, Joseph (Lora) Dyson, Louis (Carolyn) Chase and John Chase, aunt; Felicia Cutchember, godchildren; Amber Barnes and April Cutchember, special friend; Leslie Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Rickey was predeceased by his parents, grandparents; Francis and Rosie Cutchember and William and Mary Etta Dyson, brother; Kenneth Chase, and a special uncle; Patrick Cutchember.

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, September 16, 2021 for visitation at 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 38576 Brett Way, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment to follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
