Rita Dufour Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 15 to Mar. 18, 2016.
Rita Jane McCue Dufour joined the heavenly angels on Monday, March 14, 2016. She is now at peace from her departure at OLOL hospital after a struggle with heart failure. Rita was a pioneer resident at St. James Place in Baton Rouge and has lived in Baton Rouge since 1959 after having moved from her native New Hampshire. Rita was born the seventh of nine children on September 27, 1927 to James J. McCue and Catherine O'Donnell McCue. Rita was an athlete in high school and worked during World War II for the telephone company in Portsmouth before marrying her husband of 59 years Paul Arthur Dufour when he returned from active service in the Navy in June 1949. She sang alto in the choir at St Aloysius Catholic Church for 25 years and had a song in her heart for her four children. Rita was preceded in death by her daughter Julia and husband Paul and has three remaining siblings: John McCue, James McCue and Venita Brown. Her remaining children are Jay and wife Jami, Stephanie and her husband Vaughn Dodge, and Paulo and his wife JoEllen. All of whom are Louisiana residents. She has 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She traveled the world with her well known artist and educator husband. Rita was a devoted wife, devout Catholic, and her Irish wit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Aloysius in Baton Rouge with visitation at 10:00 and a mass at 11:00 on Friday, March 18th. Contributions may be made to the Paul Dufour and Julia Dufour Richardson Scholarship Fund through the Baton Rouge Arts Council.

An Irish prayer for ReRe's family
May God give you...
For every storm,a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

Rita had a great sense of peace, steadiness, and joy. We have given God back one of His finest of servants.

Jan and I were privileged to have know both Paul and Rita, such a good balance of energy and calm, like elements in a fine art composition.

Their fibers of strength will be forever woven into the tapestry of the lives of their family and friends.

And like great art and song, their legacy will become more cherished with the passing of time.
