Rita Jauer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 4, 2025.
Rita Gay Jauer, a vibrant spirit and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 87.

Voted "Most Vivacious" in high school, Rita lived up to the title every day of her life. Her boundless energy, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm made her the heart of every room she entered and the first to lift others up. She was a lifelong cheerleader-not just in her youth, but for everyone she loved. Whether rallying behind friends, supporting family through life's highs and lows, or standing proudly on the sidelines at her grandson's games, Rita's encouragement was a constant source of strength and joy.

Rita was endlessly curious-always eager to learn, explore, and connect. A true sports fanatic, she followed games with passion, especially when her grandson was playing.

She also devoted herself to her community with grace and leadership, serving as President of both the Houston Memorial Hermann Hospital Volunteer Service and the Houston Embroidery Guild. In every role, she brought dedication, creativity, and an unmistakable spark.

Rita's favorite color was green-a fitting symbol of her life: full of vitality, growth, and joy.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Leland G. Jauer, her husband of 64 years. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and family-a partnership that inspired everyone who knew them.

Rita leaves behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and joy. She will be remembered for her cheerfulness, her unwavering support of others, and the way she made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.

She is survived by her daughter Gavra Jauer Flood, her husband Brian Flood, and her grandson Mason Flood, who will carry her spirit forward in their hearts and lives.

A celebration of Rita's life will be held on September 11, 2025, at 2pm at Lakeview Bible Church located at 4310 N. Quinlan Park Road, Austin, Texas 78732. In honor of Rita, we ask that you wear green to the service-a small but meaningful tribute to the vibrant woman who made the world brighter for all of us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, an organization that reflects her lifelong spirit of compassion and empowerment.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Rita in our Monday study group. She had a great sense of humor and always shared valuable insights in our discussions. I will miss her especially as we begin our first meeting without her in two days.

Praying for the family she loves so much...

Although I only knew Rita for a year, she was a delight. She was intelligent with a fun sense of humor. She recommended many books & authors as she was a voracious reader. Talking sports was another commonality we shared!
I feel blessed to have known her & we will so miss her in our Widows Bible study.
Blessings,
Becky McBride
