Rita Tangredi

Rita (Albano) Tangredi, 93, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17th, 2022. Rita was born on January 28th, 1928 and raised in Springfield MA. She attended Cathedral Grammar School and was a graduate of Springfield High School. Rita's first job was at Public Market where she worked in the bakery decorating cakes. For 27 years, she worked at Style Tex in Hatfield, MA. The following years, she worked right next door to her childhood home at Gemini in the South End of Springfield. In the latter part of her working days, she spent 9 years as the housekeeper for Our Lady of Hope Rectory. Rita was an avid member of Jericho's Faith and Light for over 30 years. She was also a long time communicate of Holy Name Church in Springfield.
Rita enjoyed life to the absolute fullest. In the summer months, you would always find her outside tending to her flower gardens and plants. On Sunday evenings, you would find her listening to her friends play jazz at Uno's. She loved cruising with friends and trips to Florida and Hampton Beach. She also enjoyed shopping and getting her nails done. Holidays were always at her home celebrating with family and enjoying a glass of wine and the occasional Southern Comfort Manhattan.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Giovannina (Botta) Albano, sister, Mary Albano, and her nephew, Russell Gabrielson.
Rita is survived by her three children, Bo Tangredi, Lucia Tangredi (George), and Mariann (Tangredi) Magnani. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Franky and Georgio Tangredi, Dustin Magnani and Shelby Tangredi Dowd (Joe), and Robert “Bobby” Pastoreck Jr, Gina Magnani, and Joseph Magnani (Christine). Also, her great grandchildren, Tyler (Sam) and Griffin Dowd, and Jack and Emma Magnani. Rita was also a great great grandmother to Ava Dowd. She leaves behind a niece with whom she had a special bond, Gioanna (Albano) Gabrielson, and nephew's John Albano (Roberta), and Anthony Albano (Cheryl). She also leaves behind countless family and friends who loved her dearly especially "Bro" Norm Carrigan (Jean).
The family will receive friends from 1:00-4:00pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services are Monday January 24, 2022 beginning 9am at the funeral home, with a funeral mass at 10 AM at Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson Street, Springfield, and burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield.
