Robby Burns Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 19 to May 20, 2005.
BURNS -Robby Glen Burns left us suddenly on Tuesday, May 17, 2005. He was 29 years of age. Robby was born to Garth and Doris (nee Eichorst) Burns on February 18, 1976, at Humboldt. He grew up on the family farm near Drake, and attended Drake Elementary School and Lanigan Central High School. As a child, Robby was very active and enjoyed playing sports. He began playing hockey but soon found he shared the same interest as his dad, the sport of curling. This later led him to compete in the 1994 Pepsi Juniors with his highschool teammates. Curling become one of his favorite winter activities. After graduating from high school, Robby enrolled in the Machinist program at the SIAST, Kelsey Campus in Saskatoon. He then worked as a machinist in Swift Current for a short period of time, but his true passion brought him back to the family farm. On October 23, 1999, Robby married his lifetime sweetheart, Karen Marie Bartel of Lanigan. Together, they made their home at Drake, farming with his dad and grandfather. On September 23, 2000, Robby and Karen welcomed their first child, a daughter Madison Ann Burns, followed by Brittany Lynn on April 2, 2002, and a son Graham Robert on October 7, 2004. Robby's life revolved around Karen, their children and the family farm. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, and winter holidays at Island Park, Idaho. In addition, Robby loved curling, hunting, fishing, and camping with his dad and his father-in-law. He was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Lanigan and of the church council. Robby's love for life was infectious. Everyone who had the pleasure to share an encounter with him would remember his genuine and witty personality, his value for working hard, having fun, and his caring and compassionate ways. He was always willing and able to lend a helping hand along with a warm, friendly smile. Robby will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife, Karen (nee Bartel) Burns and their three children, Madison, Brittany and Graham of Drake; his parents, Garth and Doris (nee Eichorst) Burns of Drake; one sister, Heather (Scott) Kline of Drake; parents-in-law, Ken and June Bartel of Lanigan; sisters-in-law, Teri (Scott) Ife of Saskatoon; Patti (Les) Blachford of Colonsay; and Lou-Ellen (Ian) Mardell of Snowden. Also cherishing his memory are his grandparents, Robert and Gertrude Burns of Drake; Jean Eichorst of Lanigan; Blondie (Mildred) Siegel of Lanigan; and Jake and Marg Bartel of Chilliwack, BC; two aunts: Darlene (Merv) Rucks of Esk; and Gwen (George) Leffler of Lanigan; extended family members, including nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and by numerous friends. Robby was predeceased by his grandfather, Abe Eichorst; one cousin, Dean Rucks; grandfather-in-law, Herman Siegel; and by his grandmother-in-law, Anne Bartel. The Funeral Service for Robby will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lanigan, on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations directed to either the Burns Children Trust Fund or the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund would be gratefully accepted. SCHULER-LEFEBVRE, Humboldt. (306-682-4114)

The Pathway That Has No End

We follow a pathway that has no end as we travel through life day by day,

Together with those who are dear to our hearts and are there by our side, come what may.

But sometimes a loved one must travel ahead for reasons that aren't always clear.

And we're left behind to continue along, missing one who is no longer here.

And while it may seem that the pathway has stopped, it merely has rounded a bend,

And our loved one goes on to a much brighter place down the pathway that has no end.

I will remember Robby for his laughter, sense of humor and smile. He was a person who had a kind heart and a great love for everyone and everything around him. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your families during this time of sorrow. Hugs and kisses from afar.

God be with you

Karen & Family; We will never know why some things happen, but we do know that love and memories outlast the pain of grief. There is a place in our hearts were love lives always and nothing beautiful can ever be forgotten. Karen, if I have learned anything these past years it is that nothing beautiful is ever really lost. Robby's love, legacy, wisdom and caring heart lives in each of your children and will always be with you. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Love Geri, Brad & Paige

what a terrible tragedy to occur to a person whom i believe to be one of the most genuinely nice people i have known...not only a huge loss for his family, but for the world as well...he was truly a great guy...glad to have spent the time with him that i did...

While I have not met Robby the Burns family figured prominently in my life growing up in Drake (curling, chruch picknicks, crush on same girl, blody nose outside the rink, etc) and as such I grieve for their loss.

To loose a loved one at any age is tough. The burden and sorry that must accompany the loss of a son, husband, father in such a tragic fashion at so young an age is totally uncomprehendable to those of us who have never experienced it.

My heart goes out to you
