Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Bix, age 78, of Clarinda, IA, who entered into peace Monday, October 12, 2009 at Westridge Care and Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa will be held Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor John Smith officiating. Visitation with the family was held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 14 at the funeral home. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa Memorials may be given in his name. Robert Paul Bix, Clarinda, IA, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009, surrounded by his family at the Westridge Care and Rehab Center. He was 78 years old. Robert "Bob" Bix was born January 6, 1931, near Siam, IA, to parents, David Paul Bix and Nina Ocie (Apple) Bix. Bob grew up in the Braddyville area, attending the Nixon Country School and Braddyville High School, graduating in 1949. He was united in marriage to Betty Hughes on October 9, 1949 at Church of God, Shambaugh, Iowa. Bob worked for several years at the Berry Seed Company, Clarinda, IA. He later worked many years on the Anderson Ranch. From 1968 until his retirement in 1991, he worked as a salesman for the Butternut/Old Home Bread Corporation. In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, and antique auctions. Later, during his retirement, he enjoyed his morning coffee group at Vaughn's. He loved traveling and visited many places with local tour groups. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participating in sporting events. Preceding Bob in death were his parents; wife, Betty; brother, Donald Bix Survivors include his children, Rebecca (Tom) Ihringer of Fargo, North Dakota, Michael (Chari) Bix of Clarinda, IA, Christine (Bob) Geer of New Market, Iowa; and Jon (Daphne)Bix of Coin, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Gene Geer Jr., Robert Geer Jr., Matthew Ihringer, Corey Bix, Jessica Ihringer, Amanda (Ben) Vardaman, Jenny Geer, Kara Geer, Noah Bix, Elijah Bix, and Haley Bix; great grandchild, Dylan Vardaman. Survivors also include his sister, Betty Jordan, Dallas, Oregon; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Dale) Carver, Tucson, AZ and Sheryl (Dee) McComb of Shenandoah, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob will be missed by his family and friends but his love and inspiration will live on through his family. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn his passing.
