Robert Blaha Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 26, 2015.
June 29, 1954 - July 20, 2015
Monday July 20, 2015 Robert Anthony Blaha passed away in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on June 29, 1954 in Norfolk , Virginia. Robert was 61 years old. He is survived by two brothers and one sister, in-laws, and numerous cousins all in the San Antonio area.
Robert was a San Antonio resident almost all his life. He graduated from Robert E. Lee high school and graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in Meteorology. He spent two years in Greenwood, Mississippi with the National Weather Service and returned to San Antonio where he worked for the weather service for 35 years. His forecasting was meticulous, thorough and highly reliable. During this time, Robert received many recognitions and awards. Most prominent of these was the National Weather Service award for superior meteorology performance in 2002. Robert had an exceptional gift in that he was blessed with almost total recall of dates, times, people, places and events. This quality was greatly appreciated at family gatherings and reunions for his vast store of family memories.
Services for Robert will be at Schaetter Funeral Home in Comfort, Texas on Wednesday July 29, 2015. Viewing will be from 9am to 10 am and then a brief Catholic service will be held. Robert will be taken by funeral procession for burial in the Comfort Cemetery, Comfort Texas. The family wishes that donations in memory of Robert go to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Comfort Boys and Girls Club, or to the charity of one's choice.

Bob Blaha owned a Volkswagen Carmen Ghia that Bob taught me to drive while I was in highschool. He graduated from Lee highschool the same year as my brother Kenneth Snyder. Bob was an older friend to me. I graduated from Lee in 1974. Bob's photographic memory for foods he ate was incredible! I'm sorry to see that he passed. I wanted to reconnect with him some time but sorry to say it never happened.
I believe his brother was John Blaha, the astronaut but I never confirmed it. Does anyone know if they were brothers?

I was sorry to hear of Robert's passing. I first met Robert at Texas A&M, where he was a student in a class I was helping teach. Just a few years later, we worked together in the NWS office in Jackson, MS. He was always calm, easy-going, and a genuine pleasure to be around.

I went to Texas A&M with Robert and attended many meteorology classes with him (Robert was TAMU class of 1976). I also worked with Robert for 7 years at the San Antonio National Weather Service Forecast Office. He was one of the most pleasant and knowledgeable people I worked with in my 33 year career with the NWS. He was also one of the nicest people I ever met. He would be so proud of the message from KKYX news (below). Til we meet again, my friend.

Prayers to the family. I met Robert several years ago at Christus Santa Rosa where he would come and swim. He always stopped by my desk and would give me forecast for the day. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to the family. Bob was very nice, extremely smart and always helpful. We shared many years of homeroom and classes in school. A few years back we shared the same physical therapist. Another time he got the approval and took the time to talk with my nephews about schooling and everyday life in meteorology. Bob was always a person of integrity and honor. I'm thankful we all had you as a friend, you brought us all a little sunshine. You ran the race well, rest in peace and God Bless. Class of 72'

My condolences to Robert's family. I spoke with him on the phone and interviewed him for radio newscasts on many occasions over the years and he was always so helpful. He was very serious and very knowledgeable about the weather. Even though I often called when the meteorologists were extremely busy during bad weather he took the time to calmly explain what was going on without making me feel like he was inconvenienced by the interruption.

Robert was a great guy. Whenever I needed to know the weather for certain dates, he would send me the information. I remember his discussions on everything. I was always impressed that he built his own telescope. He was a great friend. Gods Speed Robert
