Alice Elizabeth Dones

The cherished life of Alice Elizabeth Dones began on Saturday November 16, 1946 in New York. She was the daughter of Ophelia and big sister to her brother, Chucky. After raising a family (or two) she relocated to Port Saint Lucie, Florida in 1995 where she resided and continued to affect the hearts and homes of her family until her passing on July 5, 2018. Alice died peacefully at the Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, North Carolina. Alice's infectious laugh could change the mood of any atmosphere. While Alice gave birth to one son whom she loved, Mark, she was a loving mother to many. Alice's favorite pass-times consisted of listening to the oldies station on her radio and spending quality time with those she loved, while watching her favorite shows and of course, sharing a meal or cup of coffee. She was a master chef to her family and friends. Often she taught many of the women in her family how to cook genuine Spanish dishes, from scratch, and without measuring. When asked for a recipe over the phone on one occasion, she laughed at the thought and said "I use just enough till its just right, I never measure." The smile was heard through the phone. That's exactly what she was. Just enough and just right. She also enjoyed her music and even a little coloring and card playing once in a while. With her many smiles, hugs, laughs, calls, greeting cards and cups of coffee, she was always there for whomever needed her. She made every house she entered into a home. Always kept a secret stash of sweets for the little ones. Never forgot a birthday. She showed the forever kind of love that could only have been shown to her by God. Alice was a true warrior whose light will live on in her son, Mark, 16 "adopted" children , three grandchildren (Nicole, Jon and Julia), two great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and the many hearts that she touched. Many called her Mom. Many loved her. Many will celebrate her memory. Alice Elizabeth Dones graduated from this life and went to be with The Lord on July 5th 2018 at the beautiful age of 71 in Lumberton, North Carolina. We love her and honor in our hearts. Alice, thank you for your love. Thank you for your life.
