Robert Bourguignon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 6 to Oct. 7, 2017.
Robert Henry 'Bob'
Bourguignon

Robert Henry 'Bob' Bourguignon, 72, passed away at his home on October 3, 2017, surrounded by family, after a long battle with lung cancer. Bob was a native of Hackensack, NJ and son of the late Gertrude and Cliff Bourguignon.
Bob is survived by his wife Jennifer, his children Robert Bourguignon (wife Michelle), Charles Alexander (wife Renee), Andrea Bourguignon (husband Drew), Chad Bourguignon (wife Amy) and JR Bourguignon, his six adoring grandchildren Taylor, Brianna, Aimee, Lucas, Matthew and Elin and his sister Karin Healy (husband Daniel).
Bob was an established architect with a passion for creating sustainable, ecologically friendly buildings. He designed the first LEED Certified private residence in South Carolina and continued on to design unique contemporary houses locally as well as the Reidville streetscape design. He was a member of the AIA, a charter member of the local chapter of the US Green Building Council with the function of green building advocacy. He spoke on the subject at many functions and to many groups.
Bob served in the US Navy aboard the destroyer Willard Keith as a boson's mate during the Vietnam era. He was a published author of 'Last of the Holiday Guests' in Hub for the Holidays. He loved spending time with his loving wife and family. He was a unique and creative person, a member of the Piedmont Piecers Quilting Guild, finding great joy in fabric art and landscape quilting. His humor shone through making us laugh and smile to the very end. He was a nature lover, a 'tree-hugger', enjoyed gardening and observing the wildlife in his backyard, hiking and being outdoors.
Bob dedicated his body to science in the hope that future generations may benefit from knowledge gained thereby.
Visitation is at the home on Saturday October 7, at 12:00 N to 3:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at the home at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in his name, to the Red Cross for hurricane relief, National Arbor Foundation or the US Green Building Council.

So sad to see you leave us. I remember our gang getting together playing pool, playing chess and listening to Dave Brubeck.

I worked with Bob in the early 70's at the City of Norfolk Utilities drafting room. Always a good guy to work and socialize with. My Thoughts and Prayers to his family.

I may not be able to be with you tomorrow, but I am so sorry for your loss. I'll miss Bob's humor intelligence, and compassion for the environment and for his fellow man. I considered him a friend and looked forward to his online postings and ideas, even though he ALWAYS beat me at Facebook games. Goodbye friend, until we meet again. Karen Newton
