Robert Jerome Brickey, Air Force Veteran, father, civil service worker and beloved and classy gentleman, passed in his sleep on April 27, 2017. The night before he had dinner with his granddaughter Marina Misuye Brickey, daughter-in-law Jennifer Otani Brickey, son Marcell and former wife Rosemarie. Robert also leaves behind his best friend Rodante “Robert” Santos, who will spoil dad’s beloved pound puppy Milo appropriately, per dad’s wishes.
Robert Jerome Brickey was born November 20, 1942 in Colorado, the 2nd oldest of six, to parents Beatrice and Orbin, who had originally come to Colorado from Minnesota while working for the railroad. His family migrated to California because his father was in the military and they stayed because his father found work with the Southern Pacific Railroad, settling in Tracy in the early 1950s. His mother Beatrice belonged to the Third Order of St Francis and was a social activist, running a daycare for migrant families. Caesar Chavez, Dorothy Day and a very young Jerry Brown along with other assorted activists had been guests at their home while Dad was growing up.
Robert Jerome leaves behind son Marcell, daughter-in law Jennifer and a grandchild, along with sister Catherine Brickey-Gogerty of Delaware, and brother Michael Brickey of Hemet and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Orbin and Beatrice, brothers George (1953) and Patrick (1988), and sister Charlotte (2012). A graveside service will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, CA 93203 at 10:45 am on Monday June 26, 2017.

What a blessing to have had Robert Jerome Brickey as my dad. Reading these wonderful tributes does my heart very well along with my mom's. As a 10 year-old my dad would sit me on his lap and steer as we drove rural roads in Pennsylvania. At 14 I drove his LTD on Interstate 80 on the way back from a Yankees game. Looking back I have to laugh because my dad was a stickler for rules but trusted me enough to drive his car on an interstate at 14 - when he was SOBER! Another great memory; from 1999-2002 he was my assistant basketball coach at Fremont Intermediate School. He didn't know a thing about hoops but having him there was fantastic. I could go on for a while and I will if any of you want to call me LOL

From the time we first met in Junior High until the end, I knew him to be kind, helpful and loving. His conversations were always lively and filled with quick humor; a delightful man, a GIFT in my life. His passing leaves a void for many. Blessings to his whole family.

We always enjoyed out conversations with Bob. He was a soft spoken, kind man. Even when his health was failing him he liked to sit and talk. We feel so fortunate that we got to sit with him at Marina's birthday party shortly before he passed. Becky and I had a nice visit with him. Steve Snyder and Becky Varnum

Bob was a wonderful man. He was always kind and helpful. I loved our excursions and will always think of the nice times I had on his side and the things he showed me. Bob had a great humor and I could enjoy many moments with him.

My love goes to all who loved Robert Brickey. For the short time that I knew him he conveyed a true spirit of generosity and caring. At one point he mentioned to me that before he died he hoped to be given a grandchild. And it was a few years later that I saw Marina comfortably sitting on her grandpa's lap. It did my heart good.

My co-worker, my dining companion, my friend and a true gentleman. A great 40 years of friendship. My life is better for having known him.
To the Brickey family, my best to you all and my thanks for sharing Bob with the rest of us.
