Robert Burden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2014.
Robert A. Burden came in to the world on January 17, 1924 and left on January 17, 2014. Here are some of his exploits in his 90 years. Married Margaret Hickey in September 1943. Joined the Navy and served on a destroyer from January 1943 to December 1945. They had 3 children: Margaret, Robert II and Peter. Only daughter Margaret survives her Dad with her husband Jack Horan, their 4 daughters and 6 grandchildren. Robert II's wife Carol survives him and daughter Christina and son Robert III. Bob married Mary McArdle Grafenecker on February 1, 1969; who came with a grown son John and daughter Carol Curran. A weekend home was purchased in Dingman's Ferry, Pennsylvania and filled it to the brim with a host of dear and special friends with roaring fireplaces, heavenly dinners and card games galore. Bob was running his trucking business these years until 1990. A move to Sparta as a full-time residence happened in 1974. Travels to London, Monaco, San Juan, The Bahamas and Key West and a part-time home in Sun City, Florida occupied the last 25 years. When Mary passed in 2004 Bob rekindled a loving friendship with Natalie Ziegler of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; squiring her through 7 years of adventures that sadly ended on her death. Single and spending most of his time in Florida Bob met one especially funny dinner companion, card sidekick and an unfailing, tireless, uplifting, smiling, cheerball who honored and soothed Bob with her bedside presence till his last breath…..Donna Allen. Thank you Donna from everyone who loved Bob. www.goblefuneral.com

Some of my best memories of my 'younger years' are the times during the summer I spent at Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary's house in Dingman's Ferry. Mowing their friends' lawns, hanging out with the adults, checking out John's cool boutique downstairs, and just learning how to enjoy life. I will treasure those memories forever.....Rest in peace Uncle Bob.

God Bless Rob

Dear Carol & John

Please accept my humble condolences with your loss. While I only know John, I can, with certainty, say that Rob must have been a good person. It is reflected in John and how highly he spoke of him.

Bless you

Uncle Bob was a very special part of my childhood and in later years, I enjoyed spending time with him and Aunt Mary in Florida and Sparta. Sorry we can't be there this week-end. Thoughts and prayers to Margaret Mary, Carol and John and all the family. Rest in Peace Uncle Bob.
