Robert Clark Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 31, 2021.
Robert C. Clark of Lebanon, New Hampshire, previously of West Hartford, Connecticut, died on January 24, 2021. He raged against the dying of the light until the age of 88. Bob was born in Athol, Massachusetts and was raised in Peterborough, New Hampshire, where his family lived through the Great Hurricane and Fire of 1938. Bob graduated in 1950 from Peterborough High School and in 1954 from Dartmouth College, where he rowed on the men's lightweight crew team, until it was discovered he didn't know how to swim. Upon graduation, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Munich Germany, where, he often said, he kept the local beer halls safe from foreign invasion. Upon discharge, he worked in purchasing for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut and then for many years as a sales engineer for Power Draulics in Plainville, Connecticut. While working at Pratt, he met Irene Blake and they were married in 1960. Bob was an avid reader of history books, and, until their recent successes, a long-suffering Red Sox fan. He was known for his kindness, dignity, his wry sense of humor, and as a loyal friend. In his later years, he took great joy in his visits and conversations with his children and grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his older sister Elizabeth Mae Clark and his companion Nancy. He is survived by his sons, John R. Clark of West Hartford, Connecticut, Robert B. Clark and his wife Laurie of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and their mother Irene B. Clark of West Hartford, Connecticut, his four grandchildren, William, Thomas, Daniel and Michaela, his younger sister Norma Farquhar and her husband Jack, and many nieces and nephews. Due to the pandemic, there will be no services at this time. An online guestbook is available at www.rickerfuneralhome.com.

I remember so many good times with Bob at college reunions and football weekends in Hanover. His friendship was a joy for all our family from his freshman roommate at Dartmouth to all our children who shared the tailgate parties and funny stories. We share your loss and sadness. May his memory be a blessing for all of you as it is for us. Mary Anne Cox

Sorry for your loss. I had some good times with meeting up with him for lunches when he did the cemetery run. He passed me the gauntlet but I haven't been as faithful as he was. He's now with good company his Mother, Father, and my Mom, his sister, Bettie Malo.
Prayers for you all.

Maureen and I were very sorry to learn of your Dad’s passing. He indeed had that dry sense of humor and was a gentleman. I recall many visits to the house and you Dad’s unfailing dedication to the Red Sox. I’m glad he got to see a few championships in the last decade. Our sincere condolences to the entire family.

I got to know Bob in the years he and his companion Nancy organized reunions at MacDowell Dam for those who attended or graduated from PHS. He also attended some family reunions with Nancy where he proved to be a most congenial man and friend. He is well remembered by those who knew him. Warmest condolences to the family.

I am sorry to hear of his passing. I made his acquaintance when I was in high school and friends with his son Rob. Indeed, I remember him as a gentleman with a wry New England sense of humor. I am glad he lived a long life and respect that he did not go quietly into the night. Rest in peace.
