Robert Clements Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2025.
Tucson - Robert Cass Clements, Jr. was born on February 26th, 1935 in Oak Park, Illinois and, after a long and full life, peacefully left us in the early morning hours following his 90th birthday after an extended illness.

Bob was born to Robert C. and Constance Clements and moved to multiple childhood homes with his family as his father completed service in the U.S. Army. The Clements family ultimately settled in El Centro, California to raise Bob and his sister Martha. Bob loved athletics and lettered in multiple sports at Central Union High School, graduating in 1952. After graduation, Bob completed his own service in the Army prior to attending the University of Arizona. While at the UA, Bob was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, was selected to Bobcats Senior Honorary, and received other honors. He remained a committed supporter of the University of Arizona and the Wildcat athletic program for the rest of his life.

After retirement from a career in banking and real estate in southern Arizona, Bob gave freely of his time, volunteering with Adult Literacy Plus of Southwest Arizona and delivering food and friendship around Tucson with Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona for many years. Bob had a keen sense of humor, loved to laugh, and kept a smile ready for those that he met wherever he went. He counted people from all walks of life among his friends.

Bob's family was the center of his life and that started with Jan, his wife of fifty years. They saw much and had many adventures during their journey together. They provided and created an environment of family and fun for their five children and the many grandchildren that came later. They provided love and support so that all could thrive, cheering loudly for all victories and accomplishments.

Through family trips and vacations, ballgames, days at the beach, BBQs, or just spending time during a visit or phone call, Bob took great joy in each member of his family and loved them all. He coached teams and cheered at the games of two generations. He loved his grandkids and watched with great hope and interest as they made their way through life. When the whole group was together, Bob was happiest. He never made it through a toast at a family gathering without choking up.

Bob is preceded in death by his sister Martha and by his beloved grandson Robert Simpson. He is survived by his loving wife Jan of Tucson; son Matthew Clements (Edith O'Brien) of San Diego, granddaughter Grace; son David Harden (Sarah) of Los Angeles, granddaughter Louise, grandsons Thomas and Fletcher; son Michael Clements of Los Angeles, granddaughters Jane, Molly, and Kate; son Scott Harden (Elizabeth) of Tucson, grandsons Nicholas, Charles, Henry, and Walter; daughter Ashley Simpson (Christopher) of Phoenix, granddaughter Olivia; niece Kelly Jackson (Greg) of El Centro, great-niece Emily.

Our father was provided outstanding care, support, and real friendship at the end of his life by a team of dedicated professionals and caregivers. The family is forever grateful to Egypt, Messiah, Izzy, Dani, Melissa, Jessica, Adore and, of course, Christine and Julie for looking after this special patient and making sure that his journey was a dignified, peaceful, and comfortable one.

Whether we called him Dad, Bob, or Bop, we all loved him dearly and will truly miss this humble man.

The family will have a private celebration of Bob's life at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation on Bob's behalf to Mobile Meals of Southern Arizona or a charity of your choosing.

What a "GUY"! He was so Great! He was even a Friend to the Friendless. His smile and persona could make someone's day, even if they woke up on the wrong side of the bed! Bob, you are and will be on my mind with the lessons you taught me when I was sometimes out of line. Your calmness and grin always brought a smile to my face, no matter what was on my mind! Will miss you very much, Ciao for now!

My heart goes out to the Clements family on this tremendous loss. Bob was a special friend. He was a great supporter of me and Jan in our charity work and he helped us find humor in any situation. Later, when I started a career in Real Estate, he was always available for a question or opinion. Together with Jan, he raised your great family and was so proud of each of you with your own unique gifts. I am grateful I had the privilege of knowing him. May God bless you all.

Bob was a stellar man! He took me under his wings at Coldwell Banker in 2000 and was a great friend and mentor in my life since that first day. He was who encouraged me to go toward the management end, and he´s was my sounding board and comrad through all the years.

I can´t think of a kinder, smarter, more generous soul than Bob.

He will surely be missed by all. But I know he will be cheering loudly for AZ Basketball in eternity!!

I had a real estate transaction with Bob in 1988 and with a 1 year old on my hip we had a wonderful escrow and closing. Later he helped recruit me to Coldwell Banker where I worked for 19 years. When I was sent to manage a branch I begged Bob to be my sales manager and he kindly complied. He mentored me during my early management years and became my long time friend. He even followed me to a new company and continued to support me. When he retired from real estate he told me "I´ve been doing this a long time and I haven´t made any big mistakes yet. I´m going to stop before I do." That was one of many pieces of advice Bob gave me in the last 35+ years. I followed his lead myself 2 years ago and he congratulated me for "selling at the top." Bob was one of the most significant men in my life and I will always be grateful for his friendship and guidance. My heart goes out to you Jan and family. He surely loved you dearly!

In loving memory of my dear friend Bob, whom I first met in Class 52 at El Centro Union School. Our friendship blossomed during those early years and continued to thrive as he served in the Army, learning Russian in the Bay Area. During that time, Bob often visited my wife and me in San Luis Obispo, CA, where I was attending college. Our lifelong bond was further strengthened through our cherished annual reunions with our other high school pals. Bob and I shared countless memorable days at the Del Mar racetrack, always trying to see which of us could keep our losses the smallest while betting on the ponies. His absence will be deeply felt. My heartfelt condolences go out to Jan and his family.

I met Bob through my daughter Melissa, (one of his caregivers )he was very nice and happy to have met Melissa´s mom. I was touched when I met him, he showed much love and appreciation for my daughter. He was excited about Khloe, my granddaughter who will be here soon. We will share with Khloe on how Bob was excited for her arrival. My deepest condolences to all the family. May God bless you and give you comfort. Jose & Luz Servin

I remember Bop smiling at a Padres baseball game surrounded by his grandchildren. He was always eager to offer insights into the finer points of the game to all within his orbit. Picturing him now in that setting, grinning, teaching, and breathing in the pleasant day and a good game, I am warmed by his memory.
