Robert Conklin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, 2023.
Robert L. Conklin "Bob", 77, of Lancaster, died November 18, 2023, at The Pickering House in Lancaster, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 26, 1946, in Marion, Ohio, the son of LeRoy and Geneva Conklin, both deceased.

Bob was a 1964 graduate of Harding High School and a 1973 graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Business Administration. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from August 8, 1966, to April 5, 1970, and served in Vietnam. Bob retired as an accountant for Carborundum Grinding Wheel Company in Logan.

On June 13, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl DeBolt Conklin, and celebrated 53 years of marriage this summer.

Bob was an avid history buff and sports enthusiast. Bob was a passionate Buckeyes fan and OSU football season ticket holder. He held a strong opinion on anything Michigan. He enjoyed golf, pickleball, and cheering for the Blue Jackets, the Crew, the Reds, and the Bengals. He was also a fan of sports at Lancaster High School, particularly soccer coached by his son, Kent, and played by his granddaughter, Caroline, as well as tennis played by his granddaughter, Brinkley. Bob's faith was important to him, and he was active in the former Mills Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as financial secretary starting in 2010. He attended Maple Street United Methodist church during the past year.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; his sons, Kent Alan (Jennifer) Conklin of Lancaster, Matthew Jacob (Tammy) Conklin of Aiken, South Carolina, and Robert Drew (Linda) Conklin of Wichita Falls, Texas; his granddaughters, Caroline, Brinkley, and Willow; along with his brother, James Dale (Sharon) Conklin of Westerville; sister-in-law, Sherry Conklin of Columbia, Maryland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws also remember Bob with great fondness and love.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Glenn Roy Conklin and Gene Allen Conklin.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan.

The family suggests donations in memory of Bob be made to Maple Street United Methodist Church, 438 E Wheeling St, Lancaster, OH 43130 or Fairfield County 211 - H3 Hunger Coalition, 108 West Main Street, Suite C, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.

Wow, what to say about a friend you’ve spent years being around. He and Cheryl were dear friends and loyal soccer parents, following the boys around as they played the game we loved. I had the privilege of coaching Matt and Drew and working with Kent for many years. The were all very special people. I loved them all. God bless, Cheryl. Thanks to you and Bob for wonderful memories. Jim and I will keep you in our prayers.
