Robert Cormier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2021.
Robert J. Cormier, 59, of Port St. Lucie, FL, and formerly of Leominster, MA, died peacefully on August 26, 2021, at Treasure Coast Hospice with his loving daughter, niece and mother by his side.

Born August 21, 1962 in Leominster, MA to Antoinette C. (Salerno) Cormier and the late Ronald F. Cormier. He graduated Leominster High School in 1981 and spent 13 years married to and raising a beautiful family with his high school sweetheart, Joanne D. (McGrath) Cormier.

After graduation, Robert joined the US Army National Guard and served for six years, part of which was spent on Cape Cod before transferring closer to home to be with his family. He spent his career working at Maki Corp in Lunenburg, MA; in various positions throughout the company. He was a staple there for many years and loved by everyone. Bob was not only a hard worker, but personally took the time to mentor and instill the same work ethic in others. Many young friends and family members got their start working for Bob over the years and credit him for the help and motivation he provided along the way. He enjoyed travelling with his mother and coworkers, especially on the annual Maki's company trip. Annual family camping trips to Old Orchard Beach Maine were some of his favorite memories.

After being stricken ill and suffering a stroke in 2002, Bob lost his speech and was left partially paralyzed, but this didn't stop him from living life to the fullest. He was as charming as ever, getting his point across with a giant smile or raise of the eyebrow. As he slowly began to add new words to his vocabulary, he would greet friends with an accidental curse word and provide encouragement with a friendly "c'mon". Song helped with this process and he could always be counted on to sing a line or two of "I Love You, Baby."

Bob made friends wherever he went, especially at his local coffee shop or Chinese buffet. His smile and charm were captivating and would instantly consume the room. He enjoyed the warm weather and began spending winters in Florida by the beach. In 2017, he settled in Port St. Lucie, Florida; where he was sure to call everyone back home to share how "Nice, nice, niiiiice" it was. He loved classic cars, including his 1973 VW Bug, enjoyed dancing, flea marketing, and gardening in his yard.

Bob's greatest joy was his family and friends. He lived for large social gatherings, his mother's homemade Italian cooking and spending time visiting with his children and grandchildren. A fond lover of animals, Bob always had a furry cat or dog companion by his side.

In addition to his mother, Robert is survived by his brother Ronald M. Cormier of Port St. Lucie, FL; Deborah A. Holland of Gardner, MA; Kevin M. Cormier of Fitchburg, MA; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. His children, Robert G. Cormier and his wife CarrieAnne of Leominster, MA, Ashley C. Cormier of Leominster, MA and Chad M. Cormier. Robert also leaves his grandchildren Corinne V. Cormier and Andrew T. Tata, of Leominster, MA; Cameron J. Cormier of Palmer, MA and Caroline S. Cormier of Leominster, MA. Robert was predeceased by his father Ronald in 1999.

His family would like to thank Bob's niece, Jenna Counts for the amazing care and support she provided him while he cherished his final years in Florida.

Private arrangements are being made by the family, with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Robert's memory may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; https://www.stjude.org/give; to help end childhood cancer.

Toni, my heart is with you and hope you find peace in knowing Bob was a good man. His spirit will always be with you. Kevin, Bob Jr., and Ashley I know that feeling you're going through. Be well. He raised great kids and I'll always remember his "C'mon" lingo.
