Robert H Cox

Robert (Bob) Horrocks Cox, 88, passed away peacefully on 27 March 2024, at West Shore Health Center in Warwick, RI with his wife by his side. He was born and raised in Fall River, Mass and attended Diman Vocational High School, where he played basketball.

Robert lived in Somerset for nearly 40 years before retiring to West Yarmouth on Cape Cod. He and his wife moved to Johnston, RI in 2020 to be closer to family.

Robert was a proud US Navy Reserves veteran and had a deep love for his country. He served with honor.

As a very young man, he worked in textile mills in Fall River. For several years he managed Cumberland Farms stores in both Fall River and Somerset. He worked as a machine operator for Globe Manufacturing until his retirement.

He cherished spending time with his family and adored his three grandsons. He enjoyed many hobbies including golf, reading, walking for exercise, horse racing and cheering for local sports teams, particularly the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins. He also had a voracious sweet tooth.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Maureen (nee Lake), his daughter Lynne Handanyan (husband James), his grandsons Benjamin, Alexander and Jacob, and his son Christopher Cox (husband Javier Mata).

Robert was preceded in death by his mother Esther (nee Horrocks) Cox, and his father John Cox.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the incredible staff at West Shore Health Center who consistently went above and beyond to make "Pops" final days comfortable and fulfilling. A private service will be held to honor Robert's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your local public library.
