I think of Rob often. While his time on this earth was short, he certainly made the most of it. I hope his family is well and comforted by wonderful memories of him.

Rob he was a good guy. He was my father's friend. He lived in Thailand with his kid's Tyler cutler and William cutler.

You are definitely missed Dr Cutler! All of us "boys" in class agreed that you were one of our favorites!

I have such fond memories of Rob from our shared time together in college, how gentle and thoughtful he always was. His passing is a shock, and so very soon at such a young age. My heart-felt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Rob and I were roommates during freshman year at Bard and I watched with admiration as he progressed from strength to strength in his life. Needless to say, I am shocked to hear of his passing. I will remember him fondly.

I went to school with Rob at Bard and I was shocked to learn of his passing. The way he looked at the world was unlike anyone I've ever met and he challenged me in a way I'll always be grateful for. Knowing him had a profound impact on me that lasts to this day. Please know how sorry I am for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear of Rob's passing. Rob lived across the hall from me in Stone Row at Bard. I was a bit older than the other students and sometimes felt like a fish out of water. Rob had a kind, caring presence about him and although I did not know him very well at all, I always appreciated the fact that he was there offering a kind word and reassuring smile. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am sick to my stomach reading this news right now. I had Dr. Cutler for Physics at Edison, and the man was an absolute joy to be around. Absolutely brilliant, and just a genuine guy with such a love for what he did; he made us all look forward to coming to class every single day. Life is so fragile, and the world just got a little less awesome with Dr. Cutler leaving us. My deepest condolences to your family...with the impact he made on our lives in a short period of time in class, I can only imagine he was cherished by his loved ones. We'll miss you Dr. C, and we'll see you on the other side.

Marcia, Dennis and I want to extend our sympathies and thoughts to you, Jon and Rob's family. I had known Rob since he was a toddler and watched as he matured into a kind, giving and gentle man. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to visit with you and Rob this past Spring and enjoy his wit and humor before he became ill.

A Memorial Trust Fund has been set up for Robs son's education. His one great heartache was not to see his sons grow and learn. Many have asked about sending a contribution and his wish would be for their future education . Checks can be made payable to MFS and sent to MFS Service Center P.O. Box 55824, Boston, MA 02205-5824.

Some thoughts about my son, Rob.
From an early age, Rob had a heartfelt desire to make the world a better place. He was a choirboy from the age of 7-11. He attained the highest honor of Eagle Scout. He learned American Sign Language as a young man. He volunteered in hospitals with newborns and children with cancer. He was a recipient of the 1990 Bard Distinguished Scientist Scholarship. He was honored with the Gold Congressional Award. He received many scholarships, grants and fellowships because of his exemplary character and academic achievement. He received a Patent for Genetic Identification in 2000. He was a Fulbright Research and Teaching Fellow in 2003. He spoke Thai fluently to help the Hill Tribe People develop a legal position in Thai Society. When my husband William was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Rob came to our assistance to help make our lives easier. He raised his son Tyler for one year and members of the community commented on his kindness and parenting abilities. He built a beautiful home in Thailand for his extended Thai family. He taught Physics at Edison State College and was rated 4+ by his students. He was a contributor to a local newspaper in Ft. Myers writing about scientific, medical and interesting new ideas. Since being in Ft. Myers he developed an immediate feedback program in Braille for the Blind which had never been done before. He worked with a prominent local doctor on cardiac research. As well as being a scholar Rob enjoyed being a river rafting guide, a duplicate bridge director and enjoyed cruising all over the world with his family. He has a wonderful wife Wilawan and a new son William. In March of 2014, he was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis a terminal disease and he fought a hard battle to stay fit for his wife and children. He worked for two years on her US Visa and at the end of his life, she was finally approved but too late for Rob. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, friend, teacher, and scientist. God bless you my son. Love, Mom

MY SON ROB
My son Rob is a unique tall man.
Young and free with a kind strong hand.
So yearning to be in a land far away
Overrides any mundane work of the day.
Never wavering in his Thailand Quest.
Rob is a man with verve, joy and zest.
On a cruise he loves to relax and play
Bringing gifts of love to us along the way.
Caring and signing to talk with others
Using his skill to learn Thai with brothers
Teaching & lecturing are close to his heart
Loving research keeps him far and apart.
Everything he does with adeptness and skill
Ready to learn is his happiness pill.

Rob was my student and then my colleague, but always my friend. He had one of the most expansive minds I have ever encountered, and an even bigger heart.

Robert was an exceptionally kind and thoughtful person. He was a pleasure to work with. I am only sorry that I didn't get to know him better. My deepest sympathies to his loved ones.
