We sadly announce the passing of our beloved son, Robert John Cyr, 46, of Bethany. He passed away on peacefully at home with his family by his side on the evening of November 4, 2022. Robert fought a courageous and heroic battle against cancer. He was born on February 2, 1976, in New Britain and was the son of Patrick and Cynthia (Sambitsky) Cyr. Robert moved to Burlington when he was 2 years old. He attended local schools and after graduating from Lewis S. Mills in 1994 went on to attend Eastern CT State university. Following a year there, transferred to UCONN as an English Major, where he also worked on the Long River Review on campus, and tutored. While at UCONN he received several awards including, the Wallace Stevens Poetry Award in 1999 in which he won 1st place for his poem "Upholstery by Pat" and the David Collins Literary Award in 2000. After college he worked as a journalist and reporter for several newspapers in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. He wrote and self-published over eighteen poetry books and novels. Some of his poetry includes "The field", "Geronimo", and "Black Mountain" Fiction work "Kachina", "Poison River, Burning Bridge". Nonfiction work includes "Doomed Dispatches & Revelations: Letters and Photos" His most recent and final poetry work called "The Ghost Codex" While in High school and college he started a band known as "Stereo Zephyr" Where he wrote, composed, and recorded his own music. His works can be found on YouTube, Spotify, as well as other music services. Throughout his career he also had a passion for cooking and was a head chef and coordinator for several popular restaurants in CT. Robert loved spending time with his son, Niko. He enjoyed travel, Music, reading, writing, drawing, and painting, but mostly spending time with family. The world has lost an amazingly talented individual. Our lives will never be the same, and he will be missed tremendously. We are all so grateful for him and glad his suffering is over, and he is finally in peace. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Niko McClure of Harwinton; his lifetime love, and partner Karolina Fiuk of Bethany; brother, Michael Cyr and wife Molly of Plymouth; niece, Magnolia Cyr and nephew, Maverick Cyr both of Plymouth. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, cousins, and lifelong friends. Per Robert's final wishes, a private spring ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 280285, East Hartford, CT 06128 or at www.cancer.org.
