Robert "Bob" Dixson Davenport, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Taylor.
Robert loved his siblings, extended family, friends, music, playing the guitar, and singing. His easy smile, dark hair, blue eyes, ability to remember a new friend's name and positive outlook on life set him apart.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Diane Griglock. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ella May (Baird) Davenport and Harry and Ellen (stepmother) Davenport.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Harold (Mary Susan) Davenport (Kingston); Michael Davenport (Montrose); Stephen (Heather) Davenport (Orange, Pa.); Ella May Davenport (Hazelton); James (Alexandra) Davenport (Bear Creek); Sarah (Paul) Rubel (Arlington, Mass.); Andrew Davenport (Boston, Mass.) and their families. Bob is also survived by scores of cousins, and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was born Nov. 20, 1952. Bob was raised in Plymouth and graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School, where he was involved in the drama club. Bob furthered his studies and graduated from Keystone Junior College, where he was an active volunteer serving as president of the Circle of K.
Over the years, Bob worked in a variety of fields. He was employed as a welder for Royer Foundry in Kingston and Foster Wheeler in Mountain Top. In later years, he worked with his brothers-in-law as a painter.
Bob always looked forward to getting together with his family for holidays, picnics and Thanksgiving football games. He was never at a loss for a kind word.
His kind spirit was evidenced by his compassion for others (especially those in need), his willingness to forgive and optimistic outlook on life. He always enjoyed a visit, going out to lunch, a fun story and the company of others. Loved by many, Bob will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 27 at Church of Christ Uniting, 190 S. Sprague Ave., Kingston.
Family and friends are asked to call from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.

My condolences to the family. I have a memory to share of Bob's kindness dating back to 1971. My siblings and I were visiting the Davenports in their Kingston home. The adults had gone out leaving us kids to fend for ourselves. As a shy 14-year-old, I was trying to escape the usual mischief of the older kids. In search of a quiet place, I peered into a room where I saw Bobby - as we called him then. He invited me in to listen to his new album, Elton John's self-titled. It began my lifelong love of my favorite artist. More importantly, it seemed that Bobby knew exactly what I needed at that moment. I felt seen and safe. Never will I forget Bob's kindness on that day.

Sincere sympathy to all of you. Bob was a wonderful cousin and although I'm sad he has passed, I'm also filled with happy memories of getting to see and visit with him at family reunions over the decades. I'll never forget his singing and playing guitar: Country Roads. May he have smooth country roads that take him home. All of us Rad and Hintze family siblings are sending loving thoughts and prayers.
