Robert L. Dircks

Robert Lawrence Dircks, 80, of 1310 Colton St., Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at his home following a brief illness. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Columbus Junction by the Rev. Catherine Whitlatch.
Bob was born January 31, 1924, in Columbus Junction, the son of Leo F. and Minnie M. (Hendrickson) Dircks. He married Miriam A. Buster on July 31, 1954, in Rock Island, Ill. Bob was a traffic studies engineer for Contel Telephone now called Verizon for 23 years. Prior to that, he was a watchmaker for several years. Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Columbus Junction, Cedarcrest Country Club, and the American Legion and a Mason. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, and crossword puzzles. He was an avid Hawkeyes and Cardinals fan. Bob will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and his positive outlook on life.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam; a son, Kenneth Dircks, of Iowa City; two daughters, Roberta (Monty) Meeks, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Edgerton, Wis., and Deena Meeks, of Marion, Iowa; two grandsons, Travis Lowe, of Cedar Rapids, and Nicholas Meeks, of Marion; a granddaughter, Emily Meeks, of Marion; and a brother, Richard Dircks, of Knoxville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.
