Obituary of Robert Carradine Edwards

Robert (Bob) Carradine Edwards born January 20, 1941, in Somerset KY, the youngest of ten children born to George Thomas Edwards and Nanny Irene Jenkins Edwards.

Bob grew up in Watson, and Memphis, IN. He worked on the family farm until he left home to join the military after attending Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, IN.

Bob served in the US Army from 1958-1961. He was stationed in Germany where he served as a Communication Specialist in the Long-Range Patrol.

Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to the family farm in Memphis, IN. As it turned out, this would be the place he met the love of his life, Doris Dunn. The couple married on Christmas Eve, and moved to Bossier City, LA where Bob went to work with his brother, Ivan Edwards at Barksdale TV Service. Later, Bob began working for Campbell TV Service and then became the owner in the 1980's upon Mr. Campbell's retirement.

Bob was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he began attending in 1965. Bob and Doris were active members for many years. Bob accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in October 1965 and was baptized in November 1965. Bob taught Sunday school, drove the church bus, and helped with the electrical wiring and sound during the building of the new Sanctuary during the 1970s.

Bob worked hard and played hard during his life. Besides his day job, Bob was also known as "Mr. TV" and had a second television/electronics repair business in the evenings for many years.

Bob loved people and had many friends and acquaintances. Bob had a profound sense of humor and laughter was important to him. He was generous to a fault and helped many people in his life. Bob enjoyed sports, and he excelled in all that he played. His friends and family gave Bob a nickname, "STUMP," a term of endearment he earned because of his strong, sturdy build. He played softball for many years in the Bossier City league where he made many lifelong friends, he enjoyed watching and playing football (often under the tree at the old Parkway High school on Sunday afternoons), bowling was something he also enjoyed for many years. Another of his favorite pastimes was fishing and camping with his family and friends. There were many great memories made at Lake Bistineau, LA on those fishing weekends. Bob was also a great dancer and loved music which was a big part of his life.

Robert (Bob) Carradine Edwards is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Doris Dunn Edwards, daughter, Robin Edwards Beck and husband, Mark Beck. Grandchildren Shawna Brown and husband, Jonathan Brown, Shannon Stillwell and husband, Ryan Stillwell, Benjamin Sparks, Taylor Guyton, and Great-Granddaughter, Ruth Ann Brown, one brother, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his only son, Robert (Bobby) Carradine Edwards, Jr., his parents, three sisters, and five brothers.

Bob will be sadly missed but his memory will live on through his family and friends. Until the time when we are together again, we will carry on and live life to the fullest, as you did and would want us to do.

I´m so sorry for your loss of Bob. Husband to Doris, Daddy to Robin, Grandpa to Shawna, Shannon and Ruthie, friend to many, and last of all my brother-in-law I´ve known most of my life, since I was 12 years old. Bob was a part of so many people´s lives. Last summer when I visited Bossier, I had the opportunity to talk to Bob after I told Doris goodbye. He was sitting outside in his chair and I stopped to say goodbye, I asked him if he had received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and if he knew Him. He told me yes he had and he talked to Jesus a lot and he helped him. I´m assured that Bob is now in heaven with his son Bobby making up for lost time. Praying for comfort for all of you.

Dearest grandfather,

I will remember you each and every time I look at the scar on my hand. You gave us many rules to live by, and there was a time in my life when I didn´t listen like I should have and my hand bears the consequence. It was a frightful ordeal and I remember you rushing me to the hospital because I was afraid of the ambulance. That incident taught me a valuable lesson, one I pass on to Ruth. Thank you for never growing tired of me when I gave you many reasons to do so. You taught us to work, play, and love hard. I know you are at peace now with Jesus, your parents, brothers, and Bobby.

Dearest grandfather,

There are so many memories, where do I begin? I will just list the top two, I suppose. I will remember you each and every time I look at the scar on my hand. It was a frightful ordeal and I remember you rushing me to the hospital because I was afraid of the ambulance. That incident taught me a valuable lesson, one I pass on to Ruth.
