Robert Lee Gary

Marshall

Robert Lee Gary, age 73, of Marshall died Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home in the loving care of his family.

Mr. Gary was born on May 31, 1941 in Marshall to Earl A. and Ruth E. (Coats) Gary.  He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a graduate of Marshall High School, class of 1961.  Robert had been employed by Michigan Paperboard Company in Battle Creek, retiring in 2004.  Prior employment included St. Regis Paper Company in Marshall.  During the Vietnam War, he trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Facility in Chicago, Il.  He was stationed in Norfolk, VA and then served in the United States Navy on a hospital ship.

On June 1, 1968, he married the former Barbara Jean Langridge at the Brooks United Methodist Church in Marshall. They are proud parents of one son, Christopher Robert.

Robert was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676 and a gentlemen's breakfast club, meeting daily at the Marshall McDonalds.  He enjoyed family fishing trips to Canada and hunting.  Robert was an avid golfer and played in leagues at Oakland Hills golf club.  He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of several bowling leagues in Marshall and senior leagues in Battle Creek.  Robert was a Detroit Lions fan and enjoyed watching sports on television.

But most of all, Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He loved spending time with his wife and he was always willing to help his son with any type of project.  His two grandsons were the biggest joys of his life.

He is survived by his wife Barbara J.; a son, Chris (Maranda) Gary of Richland, Michigan; grandsons, Tyler Ethan and Mason James Gary; and a sister, Bonnie (Roland) Eckhart of Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Gary and a brother, Richard Gary.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Craig K. Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Marshall Chapel.  A funeral service will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are to the Michigan Education Saving Plan (MESP) for his grandson's education or to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
