GOLDMANN--Robert B.

(deceased, October 7, 2018) was born in Reinheim, Germany in 1921 and came to the US via England in 1939. He studied Spanish and Journalism at night at Columbia University while working in the garment district during the day. He had a long, successful career, starting as a German language announcer at the Voice of America and eventually managing the news room there. He went on to work for the U.S. State Department's Alliance for Progress under President John F. Kennedy. In the late 1960's and early 1970's, he served in New York City's nascent Human Resources Administration under Mayor John V. Lindsay. Transitioning to the philanthropic field, he joined the Ford Foundation where he served for 12 years as a valued Program Director. Prior to retiring, he worked for the Jewish Federation and he took the position of European Director of the Anti-Defamation League, based in Paris. Always seeking to contribute his estimable knowledge of social, political and cultural affairs, he contributed countless analysis columns to leading US and European news outlets well into his 80's. He loved music, especially the Wagner operas, and was an avid NY Yankees fan. His beloved wife, Eva was by his side for 66 years before predeceasing him in 2014. He is survived by his three children, Peter, Judith and Andrea and their families. May his memory be blessed forever.
