Robert James Grandinetti

Robert, Officer Bob, Safety Santa, great dad, grand dad, and husband passed away early morning on September 22nd surrounded by loved ones. Born December 17, 1937 to Carmen and Carmella Grandinetti in Spokane, WA, he was the baby of the family with 5 older siblings. Bob served his country in the Air Force after high school. He had dreamed about being an engineer but after two years at Eastern Washington University, had to leave and take care of his ill father, which he never once regretted. He was also an avid drummer and once played at the Grand Ole Opry. He met his wife Beverly at St. Anne's Catholic Church and they were married on September 19, 1964. When their first child was born, Bob decided he needed a more stable job and thus began his long career with the Spokane Police Department in 1967. He served Spokane for nearly 32 years and during his tenure, developed a reputation for assisting vulnerable populations, including the elderly, homeless and mentally ill. He worked on the DARE project for teen drug awareness and prevention, was Safety Santa for 25 years, and was a leader in investigating gang violence in Spokane. Bob was also the neighborhood tool man and there wasn't much he couldn't fix. He retired at the age of 60 and traveled all over the world with Beverly, the love of his life. Family was most important to Bob so he and Beverly traveled to visit children and grandchildren as often as they could. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his 3 children and their spouses: Carmela (Cami) Grandinetti and Richard Stewart, Kimberly Grandinetti and Gregory Kelly, Robert Grandinetti, Jr. and Zanna Stone as well as 7 grandchildren: Aeden, Ella, Blakely, Colby, Brandon, Delaney and Graham. We will have a viewing at Hennessey Funeral Home from 1-4pm on Thursday afternoon at 2203 North Division Street, with a wake to be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3520 E 18th, Spokane, WA 99223, on Thursday, September 29th, at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 30th, at 11am at St. Peter's, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2pm, located at 7200 North Wall Street. We invite you to celebrate with us at The Spokane Club, in the Library room, for a memorial reception later that afternoon on September 30th, from 3:30 to 6:30pm, located at 1002 West Riverside Avenue, downtown Spokane. Parking is available in their lot on Madison Ave for $3 if needed.
