Robert, Officer Bob, Safety Santa, great dad, grand dad, and husband passed away early morning on September 22nd surrounded by loved ones. Born December 17, 1937 to Carmen and Carmella Grandinetti in Spokane, WA, he was the baby of the family with 5 older siblings. Bob served his country in the Air Force after high school. He had dreamed about being an engineer but after two years at Eastern Washington University, had to leave and take care of his ill father, which he never once regretted. He was also an avid drummer and once played at the Grand Ole Opry. He met his wife Beverly at St. Anne's Catholic Church and they were married on September 19, 1964. When their first child was born, Bob decided he needed a more stable job and thus began his long career with the Spokane Police Department in 1967. He served Spokane for nearly 32 years and during his tenure, developed a reputation for assisting vulnerable populations, including the elderly, homeless and mentally ill. He worked on the DARE project for teen drug awareness and prevention, was Safety Santa for 25 years, and was a leader in investigating gang violence in Spokane. Bob was also the neighborhood tool man and there wasn't much he couldn't fix. He retired at the age of 60 and traveled all over the world with Beverly, the love of his life. Family was most important to Bob so he and Beverly traveled to visit children and grandchildren as often as they could. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his 3 children and their spouses: Carmela (Cami) Grandinetti and Richard Stewart, Kimberly Grandinetti and Gregory Kelly, Robert Grandinetti, Jr. and Zanna Stone as well as 7 grandchildren: Aeden, Ella, Blakely, Colby, Brandon, Delaney and Graham. He has one remaining sister, Julie Adams. In leiu of flowers, please consider donating to Spokanecops.org, or The Alzheimer's and Dementia Association of Washington. We will have a viewing at Hennessey Funeral Home from 1-4pm on Thursday afternoon at 2203 North Division Street, with a wake to be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3520 E 18th, Spokane, WA 99223, on Thursday, September 29th, at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held Friday, September 30th, at 11am at St. Peter's, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2pm, located at 7200 North Wall Street. We invite you to celebrate with us at The Spokane Club, in the Library room, for a memorial reception later that afternoon on September 30th, from 3:30 to 6:30pm, located at 1002 West Riverside Avenue, downtown Spokane. Parking is available in their lot on Madison Ave for $3 if needed.

I am so sorry to hear of Bobby's passing. My many memories are from growing up across the street from Grandinettis. We played football and baseball in the dirt road. I remember his getting his first drum sticks. His Mom, Carmella, was going shopping. As she stood in the room repeating her list of things to buy, Bobby would blurt out "drum sticks". And she responded,"No". This went on for a long time.
However when she returned home, she had his drum sticks. RIP, Bobby, and God Bless Your special life with us.

Even though we did not know Bob personally, we can tell you how proud we were of a life so well lived. When my Father in Law, Carmen d'Andrea came to Spokane to visit from Kellogg, he would always take time to visit his Auntie Carmella, his Mama Lucia's sister. We would get a report of the wonderful Grandinettis and always felt connected even though Bob did not know us. A good life makes waves to many people and our family is among them.

It was my pleasure to have worked with Bob for many years. It is fair to say that he was one of Spkane's Finest. His professionalism will be missed.

I remember Bob well from my time working with the City of Spokane in the early 1980s in code enforcement. Such a compassionate man when we were dealing with the elderly. He was a wonderful person.

I considered Bob Grandinetti to be one of my best friends; he was certainly the most colorful. We were neighbors on Browne's Mountain where we raised our children and shared many fond memories. All of the children loved Santa Bob who loved to dress up as Santa Claus and hand out Hershey bars. The children always knew what they would receive at Halloween (a big Hershey bar) and looked forward to trick or treating at his house. I can still hear his laugh as he teased the little ones.
Bob was always a good person to consult for any mechanical or home improvement problem. He was the man to go to for any special tools and generous and humorous free advice.
All of Bob's friends were entertained for hours with his many embellished stories of his police adventures. Many hours were spent laughing around the campfire at Sullivan Lake as Bob told these tales. He always caught the biggest fish and you could join his "Fisherman's Club" if you made his strict qualifications.
Bob was a man who left an indelible memory on anyone who was in his life. He certainly will have a very special place in my heart and I feel like I am a better person having known Bob. I will certainly miss Bob Grandinetti.
