Robert Gundeck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 13, 2015.
GUNDECK, Robert Robert Gundeck, of Atlanta, Georgia, died at his home on Saturday morning at the age of 71. Bob was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on March 25, 1943, to Anne and William Gundeck. He was raised there with his younger brother Richard until he attended Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. It was there that he met Diane Manning (Gundeck) on a blind date. They were married for 48 years and had two children, Ethan and Winifred. He received his M.B.A. from American University and quickly started his own retail stereo chain called Atlantis Sound. Some of his career highlights include: serving as manufacturer's representative for Pioneer Electronics and Apple Computer, and becoming CEO of American Business Products. A scratch golfer in his prime, Bob was a member of several country clubs, including Cherokee, Merion (outside of Philadelphia), and Hole in the Wall (Naples, FL). He loved to laugh and make people laugh, resorting to his gorilla suit and his collection of fake dog poop, if necessary. He was a gracious host and generous friend to many. Above everything, Bob was a family man. Never has anyone been more proud of his kids and grandkids (Anni, Louisa, and Alexander). He loved life, and he will be missed. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, January 14, at 2 p.m.

For some reason I thought about my time as an Apple dealer 30 years ago in Savannah and wondered about the reps who serviced my account. I remembered Bob Gundeck and today I searched for him, as I remembered him as a good and decent human being. I was shocked and saddened to see that he had passed away just a year ago. My condolences, albeit very belatedly, to his family. Obviously he left a huge impression on many people.

I just learned of Bob's passing. Bob hired me at Apple and was only around for a few months but he taught me much during that time. He was greatly admired among the rep firm group.

Blessings to you all.

I worked with Bob in the 1970's & 1980's when we were manufacturer's reps for Pioneer High Fidelity. His knowledge of business and his leadership abilities were inspirational. Further, he was a great family man and an inspired sportsman. I regret that I did not find out about his passing until today.

My sons, Mark and Peter and I are so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was truly a remarkable man who provided so many happy memories for us. I remember when Diane bought the gorilla suit mentioned in the obituary. She was so proud to have gotten it as a bargain price due to the two left feet. Bob wore it to the airport to greet a friend! Just another example of his fun loving nature. In addition to the laughter he brought to so many he also had a great loving and generous heart. My deepest sympathy to Diane, Ethan and Winnie. I know how much this man will be missed in their lives. My love to you all.
