Robert GUTERMA Obituary
Robert Alexander Guterma, 61, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013. Robert was born November 18, 1951 in Greenwhich, CT. He had been a resident of Vero Beach for 25 years, coming from Boca Raton, FL. Robert attended Boca Raton High School and the University of Florida. He practiced as a Real Estate Broker for 20 years before moving to Vero Beach where he became a builder of custom homes in the John's Island community. Architecture and preserving classical building standards were his passions. He was avid collector of Haitian Art, and as a triathlete and marathon runner, Robert completed over 100 triathlons and four marathons before the age of 50. Robert was a member of Spanish River Presbyterian Church in Boca Raton and later, of Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach, the Boca Raton Hotel & Club, John's Island Club for 20 years, and the John's Island Architectural Review Board. He was also the founder and president of Architectural Homes, Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Leonard Guterma, Anita Louise McGrath; two sisters, Carole Jean and Karen Anita Guterma, and three adopted brothers, Brock, Brandon, and Marc Guterma. Robert is survived by his wife of 31 years, Emily Corcoran Guterma of Vero Beach; son, Robert Alexander, Jr. of Shanghai, China, and two daughters, Anita Elizabeth "Lizzy" Guterma of Charlotte, NC, and Marianne Guterma of Tampa, FL. His legacy is in his children by whom he will be sorely missed, the beautiful structures that he built, and his hopes for the future and the pursuit of justice. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, 1950 20th St, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory. Donations can be made to the Anglican Relief and Development Fund, PO Box 3030 Pittsburgh, PA 15230-3830.

Dear Emily and family,
We just heard of this on Friday and our hearts could not be more saddened by the loss and our deepest thoughts and prayers are with you.
Like Buzzy stated, I go back with Bob to the very early days of Boca (Wooden bridge on Camino over ICW) , just a handful of great people. Times at your dear mothers home with a doors-open invitation, many days of wonderful tennis with Bobby at the Boca Club. Our memories are the fuel for life; they bring back yesterday and comfort us today. Bobby will never be out of our hearts, due to being out of our sight.

Emily, although it's been a while I grew up with Bob and Karen in the early years when Boca was a small town and everybody knew everybody. The Guterma family was one of those cornerstones that helped make our town what it was. Losing one of our own always hurts and it's a piece of history that shouldn't quietly slip away. Remembering you, and Bob, in prayer today and all the great memories we had as kids in our home town.
