Robert Hanssen

Robert Hanssen, age 65, of Gasport, entered into rest on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Erie County Medical Center. Born February 4, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Odd A. and Signy (Hansen) Hanssen. Robert was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and attended Orange County Community College in Newburg, NY. He married Bonnie Bowerman August 22, 1964, in Lockport, at the First Presbyterian Church. Robert was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons, grandson and friends. His hunting companions called him, “Cowboy”. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and giving his produce away to family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He and his wife owned and operated Colonial Ridge Stables in Middleport for 20 years. He then worked for NYS Department of Ag and Markets for the past 17 years as a supervisor, winning many awards. He and his wife also did local catering. Loving husband of Bonnie Hanssen. Dear father of Michael (Michelle) Hanssen of Middleport, Amy (David) Hanssen-Keyes of Middleport and John (Rose) Hanssen of Barker. Cherished grandfather of Mitchell, Mikayla, Mikenzie, Madeline, Clayton, Lucas, Payton and Cole. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Zion Lutheran Church, 4447 Central Avenue, Gasport, on Wednesday from 10 until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Rodney Klinzing officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, Gasport.
