Robert Harwood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 27, 2025.
Robert Nicholas "Bob" Harwood, 66, passed away on June 9, 2025, in Arlington, Virginia. Born on March 18, 1959, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bob lived a life marked by quiet devotion to his family and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Carbone, with whom he shared a life filled with love and partnership. Together, they raised two children, Kyle Carbone Harwood and Madeline Carbone Harwood - his greatest pride and joy. He also leaves behind his two brothers: John (Jack) Harwood and his wife Tudi Harwood, and Thomas (Tom) Harwood and his wife Bonnie Harwood. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Maas Harwood and Lawrence Harwood, as well as his brother Lawrence Harwood Jr. (Larry).

A true Midwesterner at heart, Bob carried the values of hard work and humility throughout his life. Bob's greatest legacy lies in the relationships he nurtured and the simple pleasures he cherished. If he cared for you, he cared deeply. He was not impressed by material things, but by values, manners, and work ethic.

An avid Detroit Red Wings fan, Bob rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering on his team with unwavering loyalty. He especially loved attending games with Kyle and Maddy in many cities. He found peace in mowing the lawn or tending to the garden. He was especially fond of and known for his sarcasm and corny jokes, which he seemed to take pleasure in presenting at inopportune times.

Bob's gentle spirit was his special connection with dogs and children. He had an uncanny ability to bond with every canine and child he met. He never passed up an opportunity to greet a four-legged friend with warmth and affection and has been especially missed on his walks through the neighborhood with Zuzu.

His porch rocking chair became a personal sanctuary - a place where he could reflect quietly or share stories and drinks with loved ones while watching the world pass by. It was here that many will remember seeing him most content: looking out at his yard, surrounded by family, and a loyal dog at his feet- he was described best as "salt of the earth".

Bob's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory live on in every Red Wings game watched, every lawn freshly mowed with care, and every dog greeted with kindness.

May Bob's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire moments of quiet joy and connection.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Fall of 2025 in Arlington, VA.

I had the privilege of working with Bob at numerous conferences, but my favorite memories are the unexpected moments of running into him at random regional airports all across the country. Our conversations had a way of making the journey feel a little shorter. You'll be missed my friend.

For some years, Bob and I worked trade shows together across the country. For all of his good qualities, I was most impressed with his workout ethic. Early ever morning, he would be in the hotel gym before going to the show and being on his feet all day. We shared some good times.

For more than ten years and across several companies, it was an honor to work alongside you. Your methodical approach to every challenge brought clarity, precision, and calm confidence to our team-no matter how complex the project or unfamiliar the environment. Through each transition and new opportunity, you showed unwavering professionalism, integrity, and kindness. I´ll forever cherish the lessons you taught me and the way you turned every obstacle into a manageable step.

My deepest condolences to Nancy, Kyle, and Maddy. May the memories of Bob´s warmth and guidance bring you comfort and peace during this difficult time.

With heartfelt sympathy, Stuart

Dear Nancy, Kyle and Maddy,
We are so sorry for your loss. Although it has been many years since our families were together, the years of travel hockey together will never be forgotten. Bob showed players and parents alike what elegant kindness and steadfastness looks like. Rest in peace.

With love, The Kurtz´s

Bob was a loving man who adored his family, friends, and life. He will be sorely missed by many. He enjoyed a beautiful, amazing family in Nancy, Kyle and Maddy.
I have so many memories of times with Bob laughing uncontrollably. I can picture him smiling in his short, gold gym shorts hanging out in the freezing rinks.
What a devastating loss......

I feel beyond lucky to have had an Uncle Bob in my life and he has made such an impact on how I perceive fatherhood and being the best husband. Not many people can live up to be Uncle Bob.

He was always known as the "candy man" for me growing up. He could cheer you up in an instant, from one of witty comments or his endless stock of new treats. I can´t think of anyone that I know that had such a jovial spirit- anytime I was near him! He was reliably funny. A personality that was so genuine that it made you so happy to be around him. I still hear his infectious laugh cackling in my mind and really will miss getting one of his iconic bear hugs until we meet again.

It´s hard to think of a father that loved and supported his family more than Uncle Bob. He was the biggest cheerleader to Kyle and Maddy and a rock to one hell of a woman, Nancy. A family that I truly thank God every day for being a part of my life. Miss you Uncle Bob
