Robert "Bob" P. Horton, 76, of Athens, PA passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at his home in East Athens, Pa.

Born Feb. 1, 1930 in Osceola, Pa. the second son of the late Carl and Blanche Johnson Horton.

Bob moved to Elmira, N.Y. where he entered and graduated from Southside High School at the age of 16. In 1948 he married Barbara Lovejoy and moved to Athens, Pa. He was employed at Industrial Electric Motors in Athens, until he started his own motor shop in 1962. In 1983 he ran and was elected to the position of Bradford County Commissioner. Other positions held included Athens Borough Council member and President; member and past President of PA State Racing Commission, Cub Scout Cub Master, He was a member of the Sayre Elks Lodge BPOE 1148, the Sayre Lions Club, and Shepard Hills Country Club. He was also inducted into the Valley Bowler's Hall of Fame holding two games of 299 at the age of 74. Bob was an outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and had a passion for thoroughbred horse racing. Bob wrote a book, "Straight from the Heart". In 1975 he owned Gallant Bob who was the sprint champion of the United States.

He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers Gerald and Donald Horton.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 58 years at home; children Robert J. and Ann Horton, Thomas W. and Darlene Horton, Gary L. and Sue Horton, Karen D. and Lloyd Davis, Kay E. and Robert Bennett, 13 grandchildren James M. Horton, Colleen Hall, Kristina Horton, Todd Horton, Tiffany Horton, Jason Horton, Gary M. Horton, Jenni Panek, Amy McCann, Katie Waters, Emily Davis, Jake Parshall, and Justin Davis; 8 great grandchildren Austin, Dylan, Devon, Lexie, Andrew, Elliott, Daniel, and Jackson; brother Ken Horton, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Friday, February 2, from 6-9 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA and Saturday, February 2, 2007 from 11 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at noon with Rev. Martin Bovee officiating, Athens United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to Guthrie Hospice, RR1 Box 154, Towanda, Pa. 18848.
