Robert Huber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 21 to Mar. 6, 2019.
Robert E. "Hubie" Huber, age 79, formerly of Quincy, passed on February 13, 2019, in Lake Wales, Fla. Bob was born in Lynn, to Robert and Margaret Huber, April 12, 1939. He was a proud member of the 1957 graduating class of North Quincy High School. He enjoyed a lifelong career as a skilled generator mechanic at Mass Generator in Quincy and served his country as a member of the Military Police for the United States Army. Bob was involved in many organizations over his life time, including the Squantum Road Runners Club, the Brewery Collectibles Club of America and the American Legion. Bob was a proud member of the United States Parachute Association for over 40 years. One of Bob's greatest passions was his love of skydiving. He completed 3276 parachute jumps since he became involved in the sport in 1976. He was most proud of being known as "Quincy's Skydiving Santa". For nearly 40 years, Bob would parachute into Quincy dressed as Santa Claus, along with his skydiving elves. This time-honored tradition brought holiday joy to countless spectators for decades. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret, and his sister, Evelyn Clay. He was the devoted father to his daughter, Donna, son, Richard and his wife Barbara, son, Brad and his wife Amy; loving grandfather of Meghan Huber and Emily (Huber) Laurinaitis; and great-grandfather to Brady and Everly Laurinaitis. A memorial visitation service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 1-3 p.m. at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock St., Quincy. Mr. Huber,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Donna, Richard & Brad, I am so sorry to learn of your Dad (& my pal)'s passing. We spent alot of years jumping and hanging out. Hubie & I made alot of CRW jumps together demos & fun jumps. In mid January I drove to Lake Wales for a visit. We had a couple of beers and discussed making some CRW jumps in the spring when I return to FL. I am very sad but honored to have him for friend. To the rest of the Northhampton guys I feel the same way.

Brad, I am so very sorry to hear about your dad. Sounds like quite the character. Quite an amazing feat...all those sky dives. I did three and called it a day! May all your memories help comfort you and your family at this very difficult time.
