Robert Davis Kayler, Sr.

January 30, 1975 to November 5, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of Robert Davis Kayler, 48, of Erie, Pennsylvania announce his sudden passing on November 5th, 2023. Robert is survived by two sons: Robert Davis Kayler, Jr. of Erie, PA, and Aaron Sohrweid of Erie, PA. He also had two older daughters that were adopted by family. Robert is loved and missed by his many stepchildren and, as relayed by a once very intimate companion, "Rob loved his 842 kids more than life itself!" Rob's stepchildren filled potentially lonely days with love and laughter and they held a special place in Rob's heart; they are: Sean Kennedy, Andrew Kennedy, Lisa Kennedy, Kimberly Kennedy, Allen Sohrweid, Amber Sohrweid, Austin Sohrweid, Autumn Sohrweid, Faith Fleming, and Erika Maulson, as well as a step-granddaughter, Alexis Meyers.

In addition to his children, Robert is survived by his mother, Myra Deliah Klante of Antigo, Wisconsin; his stepfather, Jeffrey Klante of Antigo, WI; five siblings: Samantha Hartzell of Elkhart, IN; James Kayler of Wausau, WI; Sirrena Airis of Gloucester, VA; Michael Kayler of Antigo, WI; and Michele Barber of Howell, MI; and a stepbrother; Chad Klante of Wausau, WI. Robert is also survived by numerous friends that were essentially extended family: Sharie Easton-Phelps, Val Sohrweid-Fleming and her husband Jim Fleming, Mark Landis, and many others. Rob has also left behind his beloved pit bull, Tank, who is still missing his friend.

Robert is preceded in death by the love of his life: his dearest wife, Julie; his paternal grandmother, Emma Kayler; and his step-grandmother, Beatrice Klante. It is the sincere hope of Rob's friends and family that he finds himself surrounded by love and security for his eternity.

Robert was a member of a few different clubs in Erie where he was able to enjoy shooting darts and playing pool with people who grew to be an adopted family for him. Rob loved the outdoors and spent his summers with friends; frequently four-wheeling or playing in his horseshoe league.

Rob had a resilient spirit and always wanted to be a better father, partner, son, brother, and friend. He had a huge capacity to love and, perhaps most importantly, was the kind of person that received love in return. Robert Davis Kayler, Sr. was a person worth knowing and he will be remembered as that friend that could always be called on to help you out; whether that was climbing up on your roof with you or helping to collect wood so everyone could gather around a bonfire and spend a long evening talking and laughing. That seems like the kind of person we should all strive to be.
