Robert Krug Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2017.
Robert C. Krug, 89, of Ubly, passed away, on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Marlette Hospice House. Robert was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, son of Stanley and Martha Krug. He was married to Lillian Grifka June 13, 1953. Lillian, mother of their four children, passed away April 11, 1989. Robert is survived by his wife Susan; Paul Krug of Sebring, Florida, Dennis Krug of Bad Axe and Mrs. Anthony (Brenda) Berti of Troy, Jeff Krug of Munger; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Bette Leppek, of Grand Rapids, and brother Richard Krug, from Ubly; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Robert was a loving father, husband, grandfather and a friend to all. Robert served in the Korean War; he was member of American Legion Post 96 and served on the Drum & Bugle Corp, he retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Company after 35 years in 1986, and he was a member of the Bad Axe Fire Department. Robert's favorite past time was making birthday and anniversary calls every day to his family and friends throughout the country and Canada. Every morning Robert would open up his address books "which he had a few of them" and usually before the crack of dawn he would start making his calls and sometimes he would even sing a verse or two. When you talked to people who received his calls, they would say things like: It's 6:30 a.m. that's Robert calling me on my birthday or it was always joy to have Robert calling us on our anniversary. A Celebration of Life Service will be on June 9 at Robert's homestead in Bad Axe sometime later this summer. There will be a notice placed in the Huron Daily Tribune, and it will be advertised on WLEW with the actual time. Our family would like to give a special thank you to the Marlette Hospice House and Courtney Manor in Bad Axe, for their loving care and support for Robert.

I was greatly saddened to hear of Mr. Krug's passing. I have great memories of him growing up on Stanley Street, back in the days when neighbors acted as surrogate parents when our own parents weren't around. And Bob and Lil were two of the very best.

As a child, I also vividly remember him running out of the house and speeding away when the fire whistle would go off. That's very impressive when you're 4 or 5, I gotta say.

I'm sure going to miss those birthday phone calls. Those were the one thing I could depend on every birthday.

My condolences to the entire Krug family. I know Mom is going to be very saddened to hear this news. I hope he and my dad are catching up on things right now, though.

I loved my birthday morning call from Bob. I was born on Jan. 3 rd so I would always wish him an early Happy. Birthday for his the next day. We chatted about family for 3-4 minutes then bid our goodbyes. He always made my day. Thanks Bob you will be deeply missed.

My parents were friends with Bob for years--the happy birthday call at 8:00 a.m. was not a happy time to call the LERASH household. Needless to say he called my folks after 10:00 a.m.
Deepest sympathy.
