Robert Kubis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2025.
Robert James Kubis, affectionately known as Bob, 77, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a courageous 15-year battle with ALS. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Bob's quiet strength and unwavering dedication to his family and career left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born on February 22, 1948, in Monongahela, PA, Bob was raised in Finleyville, PA, amidst a large extended family. He was the beloved son of the late Lillian King Kubis and the late John Kubis. A proud Yinzer and dedicated Steelers fan, Bob kept his Pittsburgh roots close to his heart throughout his life.

Bob earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio Northern University, where he was an active member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He was also a member of the Nu Theta Kappa Engineering Honor Society. He later obtained a Master's in Business Administration from Canisius College in 1976. After college, Bob worked for Bell Aerospace in Buffalo, NY, where he tested rocket engines. He later joined Talon, Inc. in Meadville, PA, where he met and married his wife, Linda.

In 1981, Bob relocated to North Carolina to begin what would become a remarkable 39-year career at Gilbarco Veeder Root, working in various roles including Quality Control, Sales, and Marketing. During his time there, Bob was honored with the prestigious Gilbarco Wingman Award, a testament to his integrity and leadership.

Despite the challenges posed by ALS, Bob never wavered in his commitment to those he loved. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He shared 46 wonderful years of marriage with Linda M. Kubis. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their two children, Brian E. Kubis (Michelle) and Kristen M. Kubis, were the pride and joy of his life, and he poured his heart into being a dedicated and loving father. As a grandfather, Bob's heart grew even bigger. His three granddaughters Charlotte Wynne Kubis, Madeleine James Kubis, and Eliza Grant Kubis, lovingly called him "Dabadaba." He cherished every moment spent with them, and they were a constant source of happiness in his life.

He is also lovingly remembered by his brother John Kubis (Valerie); sisters Suzanne Blum (John), Sherrie Kubis (Axel Griner), and Jennifer Kubis; sister-in-law Carol Weber; and brother in law Richard Martinez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held him dear.

To honor Bob's memory and enduring spirit, the family warmly invites you to join them as they walk in Bob's memory at the Walk ALS Triangle (https://secure.alsnc.org/site/TR?fr_id=1180&pg=entry) being held on April 26, 2025 at Halifax Mall in Raleigh, NC.

Bob faced each day with quiet courage and an unshakable will-qualities that inspired everyone around him. Though ALS may have challenged his body, it never touched the strength of his spirit or the depth of his love for those closest to him.

Memorial Donations may be made to: ALS United NC (http://secure.alsnc.org/goto/Linda_Kubis) or to Transitions LifeCare Hospice House in Raleigh, NC (https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/).

Rest in peace, Dabadaba. You will forever be loved.

I am so thankful that I had the honor to partner and collaborate with Bob during his phenomenal 39-year career at Gilbarco. While working together on software for convenience stores, Bob taught me the importance of caring and nurturing our teams as the primary principle to being a worthy leader. He did this in small and powerful ways. I often remember going into his office to debate the latest quality issue or setback. I recall his style of always grounding our discussions by checking in on our personal lives and our connections with others. In doing so, he somehow placed whatever issue of the day in proper context and perspective. His energy, passion, and insistence on doing things with character and respect made him a pillar of undeniable strength to all who worked with him, and he is one of the many things I will greatly miss and cherish. Thank you, Bob, for being an amazing you.
