ROBERT LOVERIN

Robert Paul Loverin Robert Paul Loverin, 98, of Lakewood, Washington passed away peacefully July 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Winstead, Connecticut, January 16, 1919. Robert (Bob) is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Loverin, 6 children, Linda Rein, Peg Loverin, Jan Loverin, Bob Loverin (Jane), Nancy Loverin (Dick), Don Loverin (Kathi); 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Betty and Bob were married in New Hampshire in 1947, and lived in Lakewood beginning in 1966. In his youth, Robert was a roofing contractor for government housing projects, in Miami, Florida, and the Panama Canal. He left that profession to volunteer in World War II, serving as a navigator/ bombardier for the Army Air Corps. During his War service he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Airman's medal during 35 missions. In the Class of 1949 M, Robert graduated from Yale University, with an economics degree. In 1953, he received his commission as an officer in the United States Air Force and began his service with the Reserve Officer Training Corp at Harvard University. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed, in Connecticut, California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Mississippi, Germany, Washington and Texas. He retired Honorably, with 28 years of service. After service life, Robert became self-educated in many subjects. He studied real estate, finance, boat building, car, television, and computer repair, and volunteered at the Steilacoom Community Church, over 30 years. Robert loved his family and country and wrote several memoirs of his life and military service. There will be a memorial service at Steilacoom Community Church on August 5, 2017, at 1:00 pm.
