ROBERT T., Sr.
Age 100, of Oakmont, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. Dear husband of Jeanne M. Knox and the late Edna (Kirby) McElhose; beloved father of Dr. Robert T. McElhose, Jr., James T. (Donna) McElhose, and the late Beth Edna McElhose; stepfather of Carol Jean (the late Robert) Knox, and the late Craig Knox and Robert Knox; brother of the late Edgar McElhose and Elmer McElhose; grandfather of four; and great-grandfather of six; and also survived by step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. Bob was a lifelong member of Oakmont United Methodist Church and a member of Lodge 548 F. & A.M. He was a former member of the Oakmont Lions Club, and served on the Board of the Verona Cemetery. Bob worked for many years as the director of engineering at Edgewater Steel, and remained an avid golfer until the age of 97 and was honored this year by the U.S. Open Committee. Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, August 26, 2016, from 3-7 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Funeral Service Saturday, August 27, 2016, 12 noon Oakmont United Methodist Church, EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in the Verona Cemetery, Oakmont. Donations may be made in his name to Oakmont United Methodist Church, 419 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139 or National Down Syndrome Society, P.O. Box 4916, New York, NY 10185.

My father, Charles Gerding, was a long time employee of Edgewater Steel and worked with or for Bob over the years. Bob's name was a household word in our family, and one that will be remembered quite positively. Reading this 3 years after his passing, I wanted to note the good memories and extend belated sympathy to the family.
