Robert Mears Obituary
He was born Dec. 4, 1952, in Anchorage, Alaska, to the late Kenneth and Ruth Gushwa Mears. He married Deidre J. "Dee" DeBoy at the Yeoman United Methodist Church, on July 6, 1985, and she survives.
Robert was a 1971 graduate of Frontier High School. He farmed with his dad and then on his own in Big Creek Township, White County for many years. He then worked for the Howard & Sons Feed Mill in Monon for several years, then at the former United Feeds in Brookston, and then for the White County Highway Department for over 10 years, retiring in 2014 from there. He belonged to the Young Farmers Association.
He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting and school functions. His family always looked forward to their yearly family vacation, taking them on many adventures. He enjoyed boating, being outside on his farm, yard work, and took great pride and care of his yard, keeping everything mowed just right. Robert dearly loved his family. They were everything to him. He enjoyed the family gatherings they would share.
Surviving are wife, Dee J. Mears, Chalmers; daughter, Kandie and Derek Newton, West Lafayette; son, Andie and Jill Mears, Brookston; son, Jeremie and Stephanie Mears, Monticello; step-son, Ryan and Casey Toby, Delphi; sisters, Cindy and Rick Wasson, Monticello, Rosemary Mears, Lorton, Va., and Jennifer Pritts, Burnettsville; step-sisters, Marilyn Shultheis, Delphi, Sharon and Bob Dewing, Kentland; and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Charles Shultheis, and brother-in-law, Mark A. Pritts.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11a.m. until his funeral service at 2 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Brad Stroetz and Derek Newton officiating.
Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to the White County Food Pantry, envelopes available at the funeral home.

Robert, what a great guy! I remember spending summers at the Mears farm when we were all young. He was always happy and kind, even when I ignorantly broke expensive equipment. I’ll think of Robert every once in a while. That always raises my spirits. The same goes for my brother, Tom. Rest well my good friend and family member.
