Robert Gordon Milner of Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father with his family present on September 1, 2022 at the age of 96.
Robert,(Bob), was born May 30,1926 in Illinois to the late Carlisle Kruger Milner and Laura Anne (Campbell) Milner. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol Milner Coffey; wives Linnea Milner, Marjorie Anderson, and Maxine Milner; and daughter Lynn Anne (Milner) Williams. He is survived by his son in law Thomas Williams married to Marybeth Williams of Medina, Ohio; his children Brian Milner of Columbus, Ohio, Monica (Milner) Geib married to Douglas Geib II of Brecksville, Ohio, John Milner married to Michelle Milner of Westerville, Ohio, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren (twenty five and counting).
Bob grew up in Lakewood and Rocky River, Ohio. In his youth, Bob enjoyed dancing, playing in a band and running track. He graduated from Rocky River High School in 1944. In June of 1944, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific. He was shot in Okinawa and received a Purple Heart. He recovered and completed his enlistment in China after the war ended. He returned to the states and received a degree from the University of Colorado in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. It was at the University of Colorado where he met and married Linnea. Upon graduation he took a job with Union Carbide Corporation in Niagara Falls, New York and was a Special Projects Engineer for most of his career. While with Union Carbide, he had placements in Berea, Ohio, New York City (residing in Norwalk, Connecticut) and Cleveland, Ohio (residing in Bay Village, Ohio) where he retired in 1985.
Bob and Linnea were married for 34 years and had four children. He was a devoted husband and father. He built a successful career while supporting his family and giving his children a solid foundation of love, character, strength and values in which their future lives would be built. He firmly believed in "family first". Linnea passed in 1982.
After his retirement in 1985, Bob moved to Idaho Springs, Colorado. He married Marjorie Anderson; later they divorced. Bob married Maxine Pumplin in 1993 and moved to Florissant, Colorado. Years later, they moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina. After 21 years of marriage Maxine passed. Bob moved to the retirement community of Laurel Lake in Hudson, Ohio in 2014. At Laurel Lake, Bob met Claire Truesdale and they shared a special partnership until her passing in 2020.
Bob was an avid world traveler and often said, "I'll go - where and when." He loved to visit different countries and take in the customs and culture of the places he visited. He loved the outdoors and cooking - his "requirements" for his apartment when looking for his final retirement home were a kitchen and a balcony or patio. He enjoyed reading, creative writing, socializing with friends and family, watching old movies and listening to music. He was a devout Christian and often said, "Great God, the giver of all good." He loved life.
In accordance with his wishes, services for Robert will be private.
