ROBERT MOORE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 27 to Apr. 28, 2023.
Robert Gary Moore, Sr., 84, of Cuthbert, GA, passed away at his home on Friday, April 7, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with kidney cancer.

Robert was born in Morris, GA, son of the late Sampson D. Moore, Sr. and Ila Ree Thomas Moore, Robert was the youngest of four siblings, who all predeceased him. His brothers were Sampson D. (Eula) Moore, Jr., Ludowici, GA, Thomas (Blonnie) Moore, Hazlehurst, GA, and his sister Betty Joyce (Dean) Cunningham, Moore, OK. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Jan M. Moore, of 40 years, and sons, Scooter (Lori) Moore, Tal Milner (Sonya DeLoney), Charleston, SC, and Tim Milner (Jennifer Mantooth), Cuthbert, GA. He will be fondly remembered by his grandsons, Justin (Nichole) Moore, Herod, GA; Justin McMullen, Cuthbert, GA, granddaughters, Erica Milner (Andrew Harris), Westfield, MA, Cadie (Bryce) Stockton, Altamonte Springs, FL, Samantha Brown, Lake Mary, FL, 3 great-granddaughters Hailey, Kyndal and Breanna Moore, Herod, GA, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom he loved dearly. His dog, Mann, whom he called his "best friend" for 10 years, also predeceased him. It broke his heart when Mann got sick and had to be put down. The love he had for that dog was huge! So much, that his wishes are for their ashes to be spread together at a predetermined place. What love for a dog--a man's best friend! Just another example of the type of man he was. He had a few other dogs that took up at his farm, but when they arrived he welcomed them with love. His favorite cats were Tom that he had for 17 years and Muffie for 10 years. He loved his horse, Matilda, and his donkeys.

Robert was a member of Morris Baptist Church, Morris, GA, but attended Damascus Baptist Church, Cuthbert, GA, with his wife, Jan.

Robert graduated from Quitman Co. High School, Georgetown, GA, in 1957. Upon graduation he worked in various fields which included construction work, a day laborer at J & J Veneer Co., Cuthbert, GA; short wood pulpwooding from 1965-68; Orkin Exterminators from 1968-70, an insurance salesman with Independent Life and Acc. Ins. Co., Albany, GA with his route being local in Cuthbert, from 1970-1978 ( 7 1/2 yrs.); and then he got back into forestry establishing his own business becoming the Owner/Operator of Moore and Moore Pulpwood Co., Cuthbert, GA, from May 1978 until his retirement on April 1, 2006. He was thankful for all the employees he had throughout those years who helped his business become successful. Robert could be found most days enjoying his farm located north of Cuthbert. He loved to travel with Jan. They had vacations to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and enjoyed a

Bahamas and an Alaskan cruise. He felt proud to say they'd traveled to every state in the U.S. except ND. He and two friends enjoyed a road trip to Nebraska and beyond some years ago! Some of those highlights will be shared at his memorial service, because there were some fun and hilarious moments. He had a lot of wit and loved to joke and tell tales, always exclaiming, "Let me tell you what I think I heard!" He enjoyed life immensely and always had a "story" to tell interjecting truth and maybe rumor with humor. During the last few years when his health failed him he wasn't able to get out and be with his friends and family as much and that was hard on him. In earlier years he enjoyed golf, fishing, and boating. He loved being with family and friends most of all.

Memorial services will be held on Sat., April 29, 2023, at Lunsford Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM, with visitation from 1 to 2 PM. Join us to hear the "real story!"
