Robert Ouimette Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2016.
Robert (Bob) Francis Ouimette was born on May 22, 1923 in Abbotsford, Wisconsin to George Marquis Ouimette and Cora Francis Ouimette and gently died on Nov. 23, 2015 at his daughter's home in Story City, Iowa at the age of 92.

When he was four years old, the family moved to Minneapolis where Bob spent most of the rest of his life. Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He served as a Naval Officer on an air craft carrier at sea for two years during World War II and in the Naval Reserve for many years after that. Bob married the love of his life, LaVonne Joan Hanson on August 16, 1947.
Bob was an active member of various churches for over 70 years. He sang in a choir for almost 50 years, served as Congregational President, Deacon, confirmation teacher and adult education teacher.

He was also active in the community as a cub scout leader, boy scout leader, little league baseball coach, PTA president, a member of Gideon's International, a leader in the local Christian Businessmen's committee, a co-founder of the West Metro Men's Christian Organization and a computer instructor at a Senior Citizens center.

Bob joined the Naval ROTC in September 1941, three months before Pearl Harbor. He received his Officer commission as Ensign in February 1944 and received his Honorable Discharge as Lieutenant, Senior grade from the U.S. Navy in April 1958. His medals include the Presidential Unit Citation with one star, the European African Theatre with one star, the American Theatre, the Asiatic Theatre and the Victory medal.

Bob was a prolific writer, researching and writing scriptural answers to questions he asked himself or others asked of him. Many who have read his papers, have grown in their understanding of God's relationship with them through Jesus.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, (LaVonne) his grand-daughter (Kelly Anlauf), two brothers (Milton, Jim) and three sisters (Lillian Turner, Trudy Baerstchy, Elaine Cooke).

He is survived by his children: Randy (and Patty) Ouimette from Arroyo Grande, CA; Connie (and Mark) Anlauf from St. Francis, MN; Doug (and Sue) Ouimette from Northfield, MN; Suzi (and Brad) Stellmaker from Story City, IA. 9 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren; a Sister-in-Law, Iona Johnson from Cokato, MN.

In the last 24 hours of his life on this earth, Bob Ouimette let those around him know his destination as he said repeatedly..."Going to Jesus..."

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to one of Bob's favorite Bible Teaching Ministries: Through the Bible with Les Feldick Ministries 30706 Lona Valley Rd, Kinta, OK 74552 or Gideon International or a ministry of your choice.

Bob led a Bible Study at ST. Michaels Lutheran Church in Bloomington, MN for years. He and I rightly wanted to study Paul's epistles. He later turned his leadership over to the rest of the class on a rotation schedule. We met at 6:30AM. I loved Bible Study with the give and take, and questions for our learning of the Truth of the Word rightly divided. Yes! I look forward to renewing our friendship in Heaven with the ultimate Bible Study leader.

Uncle Bob was a wonderful man who has left a void in our hearts and I feel so privileged to have been a member of his extended family through marriage to his nephew. We all look forward to seeing you in Heaven! .

He was a great man who was positive right to the end. Everyone who ever came in contact with him was blessed beyond measure. I count myself as VERY blessed since I knew him pretty well!

What a wonderful man; I just wish I had met him. I feel like I knew him thru his daughter, Suzi. Their mutual love for each other is so remarkable and both of you are so blessed to have had each other. My condolences to the entire family. My love and prayers go out to you as you grieve his passing, but since he knew exactly where he was going I'm sure he is locked totally to his savior, Jesus Christ! Peggy Thomas Cape Coral, FLorida
