Robert Pankowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 8, 2010.
Born in 1940 to Anthony and Anna Pankowski in Nebraska, "Big Bob" lived and loved his life in Idaho. An avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Although his favorite pastime was "Kibitzing"- the man could tell a story. A religious young man who sought priesthood with his education through St. Mary's and graduated from St Teresa's academy in 1958. He majored in criminology at Boise Junior College/ Boise State where he also played basketball and later semi-pro. He pursued a career in law enforcement, working for Boise City P.D., Ada County Sheriff, Idaho State Police, and Idaho State corrections. He retired from law enforcement after 30 years and devoted his time to bingo charities and Gowen Field NCO open mass. He found his niche in driving school bus which he did for the last 17 years. He loved the children as if they were his own. A perfect day; dangling a worm at his favorite catfish hole, with a lot of conversation of course. He leaves behind his wife Karrie, his children and their spouses: Roxanne and Tim Gregor, Toni and Jason Hendricks, Rob Pankowski, Dan and Brandi Pankowski, and Grandchildren: Maddie, Kendra, Aidan, Addison, Carter and Colton. The family wishes to share memories and photos with a Celebration of Life service at the VFW, Saturday December 11th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. We suggest in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled Veterans of America or the Idaho peace officers association.

Back in our Corrections days big Bob held me under his wing many times. When I was going through tough times, afraid and alone, Bob invited me to dinner to his home with his family on Christmas Day. He also gave me a nice pair of black leather gloves as a gift that day.
The times spent fishing with him are also memories etched in my mind. What a wonderful man.

My deepest condolences for your loss. The first time I ever met him I was roughly four yrs. old, listened to him talk like donald duck and thought he was the tallest man on earth when he stood up. I lost contact with him many years ago,but thought about him over the years. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with his family.

Hi Big Bob i will miss you so much. We played in a lot of golf tournamants together and had a great time. We looked like the odd couple pulling up to the tee box but got along so well in the cart. I will miss you

Bob will be truly missed by Bonnie and myself. He was a friend that we enjoyed to visit with and when we would walk around the neighborhood, during our morning exercise, see Bob driving his school bus, he never failed to stop and say hello or just wave.

One of the most memorable times was when we were building a shed in our back yard. We had to install the prefab roof and needed someone that was tall to hold the center. At 6 foot 8, Bob came over and held the center section and TADA, we had a shed! A great man that will be in our hearts forever.

What can I say - Bob was always so cheerful, full of life and kind to me. I hadn't seen him in so long, but will always remember his jokes, teasing, and big heart. I'm so grieved for you Karrie, and your children and grandchildren. It was a blessing to know him the little bit I did.

Karrie and family:

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I got some of my best jokes from him. I know it's been a while, but some of the best times of my life have been spent in your company, whether at the club or on a trip to Jackpot. Please know you are in my thoughts today and always.

"Big Bob" was my children's bus driver at Amity School in the early 90's. He was their favorite bus driver, and was well loved by staff and parents as well. He will be missed. We pray that you find comfort and peace. The Andersen family (Kathy, Steve, Sarah, Jessica & Ben) Boise, Idaho

Karrie, Danny, Robbie: Dick and I are so very sorry for your loss. We were shocked to hear that Bob had passed away. We thought a great deal of Bob and enjoyed the great times we all had together whether it was a trip to Jackpot, Bingo at the club, or just lifting one together. He was the greatest "unlicensed" back cracker in the business.
Peace & God's blessings to all of you. Dick & Fran
