Dear Uncle Leon,
Words cannot express how sorry I am that Uncle Bobby is gone from your life, and the many people he touched.
He was a brilliant, handsome, caring man.
You both seemed to enjoy living the life that most people only dream of.
He will never be forgotten.
Love,
Sandy

Deepest sympathies to you, Leon. I'll always remember Dr. Pincus-Witten, as I called him at Queens College. My best professor there, and a brilliant critic, too. RIP, my dear genius.

I was a student of Dr. Pincus-Witten in 1976 and he was the most memorable educator in my academic life. An affirmation from him was a blissful experience. Fourty two years later I can still hear his voice in my head. I was a fortunate person to be in his class. My deepest condolences to Mr. Hecht.

Robert was my favorite professor at Queens College, where he was respected and adored by many for his brilliance and charisma. I have fond and vivid memories of his lively lectures. A decade ago, I told him as much in an email, and he was ever so gracious in his reply. My deepest sympathies.

Dear Leon,
While I did not know you, I knew RPW and studied with him at SVA. He was always very nice and insightful to me and always remembered me when out paths crossed in later post school life. My sincere condolences as he was a lovely man. Sharlene Spingler

Robert was my professor at Queens College for one semester in 1975 and I'll never forget his scintillating wit and dapper style, especially the bow ties. When looking at one of Picasso's cubist collages, he exclaimed, "He can go to heaven just for this!" Who else in academia spoke like that? Every class was full of such playful, spontaneous surprises. Robert encouraged me in my quest to interview Alice Neel, even though he was not philosophically aligned with her representational style. My condolences on the loss of a truly singular voice and magnetic presence. And who knew he was a Jewish boy from the Bronx? He certainly fooled me!

Dear Leon, sending you my love and my condolences at this difficult time. Robert's irreverance and the twinkle in his eye, combined with his love of life and art, his wit and way with words, made him one of a kind and truly a spirit that the art world needed and still needs now more than ever. Robert will be truly missed.

Robert was my mentor and friend. It feels as though a whole continent has sunk under the ocean. Condolences to Leon. Peace, or, as Robert would say, 'hugs n' bugs'.
