Robert Puckett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2018.
Robert "Luke" Puckett, 28, left his family suddenly on Thursday, October 25, 2018, after a long day working. He was planning to spend the evening relaxing with his new girlfriend, Ashlea Williams. Luke was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 14, 1990. He grew up in Midland, NC and graduated from Hickory Ridge High school in 2009.

He never met a stranger and made many friends along his way in Asheville, Kannapolis, New Bern, Atlantic Beach, and Las Vegas while living a nomadic life.
In January 2018, Luke moved back to the family home in Midland to save money for his future. He was employed at Smith Grounds and appreciated the encouragement and compliments from many clients as he worked.

One of Luke's favorite activities was catch and release fishing at the family pond or mountain cabin. He said he could never work surrounded by walls; he needed to be outdoors. He loved animals, wildlife and nature. He especially loved his cats and dogs. On several occasions he brought home stray cats, telling us they just "wandered up."

He caught the yard sale bug young, shopping for metal toys and Fire King at yard sales and flea markets with Papa and Bill. He spent his last Saturday morning antiquing looking for a vanity to re-do for Ashlea's birthday and spent the afternoon cutting firewood with a friend.

He is survived by his parents Mark and Connie Puckett of Midland, his younger brother Tom of Chino Hills, California, and his little sister Sarah Puckett. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Ola Turbeville of New Bern, NC, Aunts and Uncles Barbara and Chris Ellis of Williamsburg, Virginia, Smokey and Sylvia Puckett of Mint Hill, as well as, Billy and Robbie Puckett of Charlotte, NC. He was loved by many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Luke was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Robert Turbeville, and paternal grandparents Lewis and Billie Puckett.

A celebration of Luke's life will be held Friday, November 2, at 5 PM at Blair Road United Methodist Church, Mint Hill, NC. Please dress casual and in comfortable layers as the family will receive friends after the service outside around 5:45 6:45 PM at the pavilion behind the church. Ice cream and toppings will be served.

In lieu of flowers, Luke was deeply concerned for victims of hurricane Florence in New Bern, NC. If you are moved to do so, please consider a donation to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). Luke lived managing a substance use disorder and at times succumbed to it. The family also suggests donations to Facing Addiction with (NCADD) https://www.facingaddiction.org/, and familiarizing yourself and family with the issues of the opioid crisis and the 911 Good Samaritan laws, http://www.nchrc.org/, or the laws for your state.

This really saddens me. My memories of Luke are when he was a young boy playing with my children. He would just show up out of no where. But I always knew he was near because his dog would show up first. I would call out Luke? Are you there? He was a little shy then. I miss those days watching all if the children having fun. Great memories. To know one of our sweet kids is gone is heartbreaking. Bless his sweet family. I am praying for you all.
