Robert Racus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2015.
SUN CITY WEST - Robert "Bob" G. Racus passed away peacefully on May 17, 2015, with his family at his side. He was born on May 24, 1933, to George J. and Rosalie S. Racus in Wenatchee, Wash. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1951, and then attended Wenatchee Valley College. In 1953, he joined the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was with the 82nd Airborne Division, occupation of Korea, then photographer until his honorable discharge. In 1956, he met the love of his life, June M. Stegeman of Leavenworth, Wash. They married September 28, 1957, and moved to Seattle, Wash. to attend the University of Washington, majoring in Chemical Engineering. He worked for the Boeing Co., in Material Research and Failure Analysis and operated a Micro Probe. A Micro Probe is a marriage of an Electron Microscope and an X-ray Diffraction Instrument. It can tell what material things are made of on a microscopic scale and magnifies up to 500,000 times. In 1968, they moved to Auburn, Wash., where together they built their picturesque home and yard from Bob's brilliance and creativeness. He worked at The Boeing Company for 35 years until his retirement in 1993. He and his wife traveled the world extensively, collecting many artifacts along the way. They RV'd to Arizona each winter and moved to Sun City West, Ariz. in 2002. Family was the most important thing to him. He was our husband, father, teacher and friend who gave us immeasurable memories that will last forever. He was a member of the Lake City Elks, Moose Club in Enumclaw, Wash., St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Black Diamond, Wash., and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sun City West, Ariz., and active in Marriage Encounter. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad N. Munson; parents, George J. and Rosalie S. Racus. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, June M. Racus; two children, Rick (Bonnie) Racus and Pamella (Gary) Rasmussen; sister, Diane Whitbeck; grandchildren, Shane Racus, Joshua (Lacey) Munson, Breanna (Ivan) Snyder; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass was held on May 23, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 19002 N 128th Ave., Sun City West, Ariz. A private interment will occur at the National Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, Ariz., at a later date.
