Robert E. Richard

Robert E. Richard Robert (Bob) Emil Richard died Thursday, March 21, in Yuma, AZ after a brief illness. He was 85 years old. Bob was born in MA, but spent his childhood growing up in the Washington, D.C. area. Bob served his country in the US Navy in WWII, after the war he headed west to CA with hopes of becoming a "cowboy". Instead he found work in the lumber mills in Shasta County and married Ena (DiNardo) Richard in 1948. After working at the lumber mill, Bob worked in the restaurant business for many years. He relocated his family to Novato, CA in the early 1960's and after working briefly as a barber at HAFB, he became the manager of the bar and restaurant at Indian Valley Golf Club in Novato. In the early 1980's Bob, owned and operated the Teddy Bear Sandwich Shop in Cotati, CA until his retirement in 1989. Upon retirement, Bob and his wife, Ena, traveled extensively throughout the U.S. in their motor home. Eventually, they settled in Yuma, AZ where they have lived for the past 20 years. Bob was a golfer and loved to play pool, which he did daily with friends up until the time of his illness. He is survived by his wife, Ena; a daughter, Betty (Richard) and husband, Gary House, of Novato, CA; a son, Bob Richard and wife, Mary Anne Richard, of Carthage, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Ashley, Brent, Heather and Dylan House and Christopher, Jessica Payton, Marcus, Katelyn, Sean, Michael and Anna Richard. Bob, affectionately known as 'Papa' to his 12 grandchildren, will be missed for his wonderful sense of humor and love and concern for his family. The family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life.
