Robert Rothenbush Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2025.
Robert Charles Rothenbush, age 74, of Chouteau, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Born on January 4, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, Robert was the son of Glen Emeret Rothenbush and Laura Margaret Rothenbush (Allgeier). He grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors and a strong sense of duty that guided him throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Wagoner High School, Robert went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army, enlisting in 1971 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1977. His military service was a reflection of his lifelong dedication to loyalty, service, and integrity.

Following his time in the Army, Robert built a successful career as an industrial structural welder. He retired from Yuba Steel, leaving behind a reputation for precision, hard work, and pride in his craft.

Beyond the welding shop, Robert was most at home near the water. A devoted fisherman, he had a special love for catfish but never turned down the chance to catch any fish that would bite. He was a familiar face at Mazie Landing, known for his famous fish fries, storytelling around the campfire (where the fish got a little bigger each time), and his willingness to teach anyone who wanted to learn how to fish. He also proudly held the title of "Admiral" of the Annual Flotilla of Fort Smith, an event he looked forward to each year.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Laura Rothenbush. Though he is survived by no blood relatives, he leaves behind a wide circle of cherished friends who were like family to him. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert's honor to a VA Hospital of your choice, supporting the veterans he stood alongside and deeply respected.

Robert Charles Rothenbush will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love for the outdoors, and the way he brought people together-with a fishing pole in one hand and a story in the other.
